Once the gratuitous use of stem cells came into practice around 2455, there were a certain few who the government began research on in hopes of finding the 'perfect soldier'. These subjects, known to scientists only as TS-1 through TS-100, mutated into grotesque humanoids. In a massive revolt in 2491, these mutants took their shot at freedom, escaping their bindings and massacring their captors. As a result of years of research, these subjects must constantly inject raw stem cells into their veins as their bodies are eating away at their malignant mutations. Very few of these subjects have ever been captured, but a select number have found a niche in selling themselves to morbid BloodBowl coaches that pride themselves on being able to train what society has shunned as repugnant. Being as there has been no change to their bloodtype or brain functions, other than severe neurosis and hate, these mutants are still classified as a human race, although their appearance tends to differ. The Needle Freaks were founded in 2507 by 11 of these subjects, opting to drop their human names as they had not heard them spoken in nearly 40 years, and instead forging names based upon their inward hate for humanity and loathing of themselves. They play in hopes of dominating the sport and reuniting with their fellow test subjects, which they hope will join their team to create the perfect BloodBowl team.
