Excerpt from the Danelaw Saga - Approximately 956 A.D.

"A land that was once distant to us became our home, however, sadly enough we were forced to flee. The Angles pushed us adrift and we watched from our ships as green pastures slowly sank below the horizon. Where was our next domain? Our motherland or what lied beyond the vast frozen oceans it seemed."

For many of those Norsemen leaving England they returned to their homesteads in Scandinavian Kingdoms such as Norway or Denmark. The Viking itch to explore beyond their realm sent others looking for new lands to live and prosper on, along with bringing ideals and ways of living.

The Norse that resided in England for several years learned of an ancient game called "Blood Bowl" from Celtic tribesmen. The Dark Ages was a brutal time, and Blood Bowl was an extremely brutal game where only the strong of heart could participate and manage to stay alive. The game was also played among the royal elite back in Scandinavia, however, it was far less violent and many more rules were implemented. Therefore, the Celtic version was outlawed in the Kingdoms, but luckily seafaring exploration westward brought this great game with it.

As we all know, he mainstream Vikings settled in areas like Greenland, Iceland, Labrador and Nova Scotia, but some ships that became lost and never made contact with their homeland were in fact never lost. The legend that Vikings explored inland America has some truth to it. Settlement was very harsh in well known areas and eventually Blood Bowl was abandoned. Fortunately in the more protected inland regions, survival wasn't nearly as difficult and natives were eager to learn the game.

This is where the story of this organization truly begins.

Team Name: Midwest Wargs
Year Founded: 1078 A.D.
Thane: Harald Ironbrand
Official Match Record: 12-5-6
Friendly Match Record: 112-36-39
Championships: Savage Cup I (1084); Savage Cup II (1085); Savage Cup IV (1087); Savage Cup VII (1090); Crimson Tournament (1095); Ice Bowl II (1099)
Current League: No Affiliation (Seeking Membership)

Upon the team's foundation, the Wargs spent several years teaching the game to local natives and other exotic species. The Wargs were a charter member of The League of Savages and played against other Norse, Native and Human teams. They won four of the first eight Savage Cups before leaving due to lack of competition (there were enough teams, they just weren't good enough to play the Wargs).

In 1094 the Wargs agreed to play in the Crimson Tournament, a 32 team grind it out contest. Sadly the Wargs were unable to participate thanks to the Bumbleton Bruisers, who killed four of the Warg's linemen in a friendly match two weeks before the tournament. Unbelievably the Midwest Wargs won the following year's tourney while being major underdogs in all their matches.

The Wargs suffered some serious punishment following their departure from their initial league and this caused them to fail membership qualifications for leagues and tournaments for the next four years. The Wargs finally made it into an all-Norse Frozen Tundra League in 1098 and pulled off a wonderful victory in the Ice Bowl a year later. Frostbite, injuries and deaths once again forced the Wargs out of league play.

The past eight years energy and time has been spent on rebuilding the franchise and the time seems ripe for another Blood Bowl championship.
