* Be good sports - crush all BB-Sissies * Here to learn? Don't bother to challenge us if not. We don't want to play experienced coaches nor those not willing to learn. We won't challenge anyone. We are here on Holidays ;-) My other Academy Teams:
Chaos Dwarfs: [A]-Team [A]Pro Elves: [A]rt of War
Beginner? See "How to win against this team" at the bottom if you feel unsure as to how to play against them. That's mainly from a bashers perspective though- still useful for agile teams, too. Nebenbei: Deutsch ist meine Muttersprache. Want to learn Bloodbowl? I recommend learning BB "like in a tourney" That especially excludes the option to dodge opponents (races or "DP-teams" or anything). First basics- then the daring stuff. It won't help playing "nice and friendly" games only to be utterly crushed in R afterwards. Of course you should not take every challenge anytime. For a start some easy matchups are nice to learn the basics. Maybe spectate a Ranked/Blackbox game or two. Don't take [A] too seriously anyway- try out! You got a lot of tabletop experience? It's the same game- just play some games in A to know the client (and help real beginners) then start R or B. For starters just play. Then read. The help section is quite good. Then ask questions before playing, while playing and after having played- most ppl won't hate you as long as you give them enough time to breath and possibly answer. While doing so learn to distinguish how "brutal" and "agile" teams really are. To be able to determine the strengths and weaknesses of a team by it's roster (~a page like this) is essential (especially in Ranked). Golden Rule: Save things first! Do stuff in order of security. Every turn. Of course important tasks are done earlier, too. Therefor it is up to you to balance security and importance. Get used to "save things first" though and start each turn by movements that don't carry any risk of failure.

- The rules: first things first. You can learn them by playing but reading the Living Rulebook really helps! I myself reread stuff every now and then. I got some stuff and links for myself in a blog. A good way to note stuff if you ask me. Just modify one and the same if you will- don't make new "note to self" blogs all the time plz. - Strategy: Learn the basics first by trying basher teams and agile teams so you'll know what you enjoy best. I am more attracted to bashers. If you choose bashers learn: fouling (how and when and what to do against), stalling (score not as soon as possible but late to prevent the opponent from scoring in that half again) and positioning (learn to see assisting players at a glance and learn to see what the opponent could do next from his position- Elves always surprise!). Use a "cage" being a basic strategy suiting most bashers. Means: position four guys on the corners of your ballcarrier to secure him. Like the 5 on a die. As you get better you should use a loose cage for being more flexible. Try out building a wall too- not protecting yours but blocking off his players. Both- wall and cage- meet up at the ideal point you might say. Pure cage is a good start though. Defense is everything. Although you might just want to "get those annoying humans/elves/..." - don't rush! Best way is not to get at them but let them come. There is just one lure to attract them: The Ball.
- Mindset: Don't get angry or annoyed! Stay focused and even more important: Have Fun! That's hard sometimes if your players die and the opponent got a Blitz again. In my experience getting angry and annoyed makes you loose (fun and game). Be good sports! A good coach is able to take serious losses in a stride and rather uses his energy to find a way to win.

If you can spare a team I'd recommend Hi for the ultimate bashing challenge. Will crush your team most likely. Might be an interesting experience to face the real killing team. Especially if you want to know a "worst case" scenario before playing ranked- not for starters. Another recommendation is Learning is fun. Right now at low TR you can certainly play a fair match against them and loose on skill alone ^^ Their coach jimjo is fairly good. Although I don't know him but from few games his bio suggests he is good sports as well. That does not mean he'd play no-DP sissy games- just the contrary! In any case you will find experienced coaches willing to teach you a trick or two in the Faculty of Academy Instructors

A small introduction just for those really being new to BloodBowl. Among those teams are several allrounders. If you don't know what you want to play- allround will allow you to check it out. Undead A rather bashy allrounder team. Got quick fragile ghuls with agility skills and two big bad mummies for bashing. No Throwers though. Undead teams are unlikely to suffer utter destruction since most players regenerate. Keeping Ghuls out of trouble is essential though. Usually they use zombies with DP to foul relentlessly. Zombies and Mummies are really slow and make up at least half the team. Can hire the Count. Probably the best star there is. Only for single games though (most likely in tourneys or against those way stronger Orcs you are about to play). Only really top if they got the Count. Otherwise mediocre and durable. Orcs Tough and strong bashers with quick Blitzers and Throwers to play Ball as needed. Top Race with the main drawback of being played by so many and being unpopular sometimes- less so than Dwarves and Khemri though. Dwarves Ultimately tough bashers. Very reliable within their limited strategic options. Really slow. Really unpopular. Easily developed (Guard and Mighty Blow for almost everyone) but low potential (no options left after those two skills). Potential hardly matters here since you won't play them ages "till the bitter end" anyway. To me a little boring in the long run due to being so slow and limited. Surely a drag to your opponents... Might be tough to find games. I am not that fond of Dwarves though they are a top team. I consider them the bashers with the least need for DPs. They have sufficient Mighty Blow players quickly. Also the ones with the worst DPs (unless you make a runner a DP). Playing only Dwarves shouldn't be an option either. Human Mediocre in everything. Not considered top in terms of overall strength but still good enough to do anything. Not bashy but able to bash at least the agile teams due to strength skill access (most importantly Guard & Mighty Blow) and an Ogre. One of few races that can take all skills regularly (general/agility/strength/passing). True Allrounders. Real fun and not that bad for beginners since they got specialists for everything. Don't expect wonders- then you'll get them ;-) Can hire the ultimately best stars for important games (among them the Count). Skaven Above all Skaven are fast. Very fast. Very fragile, too... Then again I consider them the fastest and most agile of the allrounders since they got access to all skills including strength (like human) and even to physical traits. That's the only race to claim that! Physicals give them the ability to have "assassin-like" bashers in a team of runners. It also makes it easy to have a "oneturner" (a player able to run 13 squares and score in one turn). I hate 'em. Hard to win against well coached rats. Lots of people love playing against them though since they are killed so easily.

This team- just so you know what you are up against- isn't really brutal by now. Fast though. For the reasons I stated above I decided to develop it "normally" and not in any especially "kind" way. By now it has one DP that can kill players. It's human though and not expected to be overly bashy anyway- maybe it can become "mediocre" ;-] How to win against this team Mind your defense! It is one of the most common basher mistakes to go "all offense". A small group of one to three players is expected to protect the back and pick up the ball. Risky! Fast teams like this run past your "wall of evil monsters" and deal with the three in the back. Others might blockade your players path to your own back and you'll find yourself in trouble. Keep track of those Guardians! A difficulty most beginners face is the overview in a brawl- who assists whom and who can block whom? Players with Guard can ruin your plans if you lost track of them. You expected 2 block dice vs the ballcarrier and wonder why it is just one? Often "Guard" is the reason! * Be good sports - crush all BB-Sissies * |
