What is Earthbound? An SNES video game developed in the mid 1990's, Earthbound is an RPG parodying modern-day American civilization. Faced with the alien threat of Giygas, a being of such immense power that his own ability for rational thought was destroyed, four children are chosen by destiny to embark on the quest to counter this universal threat. They travel the world, visiting secret locations that will grant the earth's power to their leader, Ness. Along the way, they will face many enemies. Wild animals, the undead, bizarre apparitions, and alien servants all stand against the children. Among those foes will also be the very people that the children wish to save, brain-washed by Giygas's power to serve his cause. Giygas Citizens is a collection of many of the brain-washed people you will fight during Earthbound. It draws upon the entire bestiary, featuring basic minions such as: Crooked Cop, Tough Guy, Annoying Old Party Man, etc. Furthermore, boss characters are featured through the Dark Elf Blitzers, to represent the greater threat these characters were to the children. None of these characters possess any knowledge of the evil that they unwittingly serve. The sole exception to that is Pokey Minch; a character so prominent in the Earthbound universe that he plays a part in two games of the trilogy. However, as the dealings of Pokey Minch are rather vast, I'll conclude with a simple warning. Don't trust the fat kid. |
