What are these norse-breton folk, dressed up as some sort of cross
between humans and legendary southlanders, doing on the pitch?
If you are here you'll want to find out!
The Argonaut franchise was born in L'Anguille under the name of Shockers and passed two owners before moving northwest into Skajadholm.
The move was so hasty that the team had to play their last game of the season still wearing the Shockers uniforms as their own hadn't arrived yet. What's more, the new coach didn't even know his teams complete skillset!
Luckily, after that game there was some time available, so the uniforms where finalized and the coach managed to evaluate each single team member and get some good training done.
This is the Argos current lineup:
G1S6: We played much more relaxed. Missed a few plays, made mistakes but tried till the last move to score. A good blitzer left us with a fractured skull unfortunately though. Let's start with free agents!
G2S6: We lost, as expected, but dice had a lot to do with it. Our Ag ladz were really drunk today...no lasting injuries at least!
G3S6: Another loss...uhm...this time we played a decent first half but in key moments our risk wasn't rewarded. Second half...really run out of steam.
G4S6: Woah, a tie. Fuck you Nuffle and all...but at least the first half was somewhat half decent offence maybe...maybe not...WHO CARES!
G5S6: Woah...what a dicing this was! Dragons went to town on us, inflicting pain on top of 3 easy TDs...man...so far the season has been...a disappointment.
G6S6: Another loss. Sloppy play first half, and then well, used all the openings we had but...ahem...whatever.
G7S6: Couldn't be bothered to play the swashies. Should have been a coin toss as the other coach never PMd also...but no worries!
Argos first go ends here...finally! last 7 games have been a drag and so we move on. We'll be back someday...;)
G1S5: We tied the Goldsmiths killing one of their recent draftees, all thanks to the apo that just didn't work. Wild game with both our offensive drives turned around due to some miscalculations and bad dice.
G2S5: we somehow managed to beat the ultrafavourite Raven...we still can't believe it. Swingy game, with many nice and daring plays, lots of really tense dodges and passes and trippings and fumbles. We were actually on the verge of going 3-0 but some vamp play from the Raven ended the game on 2-1. Woah. Thanks nuffle and all...what a game!
G3S5: We manage to beat Might after a tense game. Many removals first half saw us stall but we misplayed and had to resort to a dodgy-blitzing-passing to score. Second half nuffle gave us a quick defensive score after some real unlucky plays by Might...then after more removals and more TDs, we came out on top.
G4S5: Again a super cool game vs the Saints. First half we botched the screen but manage to score in T8 after the Saints overcommit and trip one time too many while we dodged perfectly. Then came the TTM touchdown. Second half was a removal fest...had 5 players on the pitch when the Saints scored in T16. Then came our OTTD! Awesome tie!
G5S5: We outnuffled and outrun the Chimps, killing their long time thrower: frenzy trap backfired horribly. KO rolls were bad but the apo saved Reggie from a niggle...good!!
G6S5: Dragons scored early after being 5 men down...then we equilized at the end of first half with a rerolled handoff to Alain after we suffered a blitz.
Second half we made a mess of our offence but managed to score somehow...but our defence wasn't enough and a nice long pass gave the dragons a tie...and we scored again in T16 with a long pass of ours...woah...lucky us!
G7S5: A win gives us the first seed at midseason. We were again very lucky overall with some little mistakes not punished at all and the Revs fling landing short for the TD...but we also defended decently and used all the tricks up our sleeve to score twice.
G8S5: We lost. First loss in the season, against the powerful Admirals. It came down to a long pass that...worked. Our offence was stopped in the end of the first half and we barely scored in 7 turns the next half...well, as expected, difficult times ahead! Let's get it together ladz!
G9S5: Well, Swashies just bossed us around. We lucked a TD and then...suffered perm after perm...argh! Jean got saved, but Sheamus had to be retired and Anders won't be the same again! But we won it...what a joke from Nuffle!
G10S5: We played our game and managed to exploit every possibility the Pilgrims left us...and it payed off. Nuffle sure helped us multiple times, but we also put something of our own...maybe...
G11S5: Another win on the Last Levs! We put in a good offensive drive with stall and all, then we manage to grab the ball and run for it...which worked somehow!
G12S5: Nuffle sure was on our side. We stall in the first half only to see the Chimps trip in the TD line during the OTTD. Second half was a nuffle show in our favour.
G13S5: Goldsmiths deserve the win after we trip on the TD line. Not a bad game, but both coaches were tired and it kinda showed. No damage suffered, which was the goal.
G14S5: Tied the Dragons and suffered perms on both our guard linos...this will make the first round of playoffs very very hard! Oh well...c'mon ladz!
We went into the game not wanting to play. Season has been real bad for us overall, all the mismanagements of the coach showed up and we forgot to fire the halfling yet again...pff...so we just didn't care and played casually. Will the Argos play in S6? We'll see...so far draft/trade limit and aliens in the roster are putting us off a bit...ah well...time to think!
Turns out we nearly quit, was nearly quitting all of fumbbl due to an AO...but then...well...actually out of 7 leagues this is one of the 2 I decided to keep. Let's see what S6 brings. We sure won't approach it with stress; we'll play game after game and take what comes out of it.
G1S4: How can we put it? Worse than this is unimaginable: both 1st and 2nd draft picks died in a game against a coach complaining about the first 1 and double skulls in T1...and then dicing me for the rest of the half...hehe...second half more CAS suffered the Argos run for their life...time to rebuild...already...
G2S4: a win. Some daring plays for our TD, a strenuous (and lucky) defence to stop the tie; second half our aggressive defence stole the ball and scored at the end of the game. We suffered another perm on a recent draftee, got outblocked but kept it together, capitalised on some boneheads and did our best to stay in the game...it worked!
G3S4: very nice game where our agile thrower got killed but the team really kept it together and won due to failed GFIs and dodges that injured opponents catchers...but still, nicely played!
G4S4: nearly managed a tie with the Admirals. After a terrible first half (no apo the elf even!) we came back and elfballed a TD, hoping to force a turnover...and it came, a very concrete occasion to score, but in the end the RR had to be used on the ogre block, and then we dropped the catch in 2 TZs that would have made as tie...nice one anyway!
G5S4: couple of players out for this one, a pity really. We tied, not playing a very good game, but neither did the revs. Champs next!
G6S4: tied the chargers...with some good patient offence that made a bunch of GFIs in one turn, then made a big positioning mistake but an awesome long pass saved the day. Then blundered the defence against the OTTD, but were saved. Second half we nearly surfed the ballcarrier.
G7S4: We managed to beat the Minotaurs...they just changed coach but put up a good fight indeed, but not enough to beat us!
G8S4: Paladins weren't in fighting condition at all, we let them be since nuffle was somewhat annoyed with them too...still a win is a win in the end for us.
G9S4: Garrison really KO'd us out cold. Argos players were leaving the pitch in droves but we somehow held onto a tie...not without blood though: our champion misses yet another game and the frenzied draftee died. A pity as he was becoming important to the team.
G10S4: The Revs were really unlucky...we really bossed them around and won with some timely help from nuffle but still a good win!
G11S4: We managed a win against the unlucky Pilgrims. First half defence was too aggressive but a lucky CAS on GFI opened a possibility and we played it perfectly (and luckily) till the end. Second half the start was good, patience offence but we saw an opening when the opponent decided to go all in. We again had good dice but made a mistake and nearly suffered a TD, lucky us the pass was a fumble!
G12S4: We tied vs some unlucky Admirals. Our offence needs some serious improvement as we had to recover a ball lost stupidly. Defence needs some polishing, we got close to stopping the score but not quite. But...our OTTD attempt was the coaches best try yet!
G13S4: We won against the Watchmen. Due to some early removals we nearly scored in defence but fell one catch short. In offence again we were up players and stalled with some risk but in the end it was 1-0 for us.
G14S4: Argos hit like trains while Last Levs had mushy gloves...what a CAS fest it was! Sorry for the beating! Anyway: playoffs here we come!
Unfortunately our run was stopped short by the Dragons. We played a good first half but then a too packed offence and a fumbled catch gave the dragons the opening they needed to secure the ball. All our valiant efforts to cagedive, though successful, couldn't turn the tide and our many KO'd players and hefty amount of skulls sealed it.
All things considered, a very nice first season for us though. Made playoffs right off the bat, came back up after a disastrous first game vs the Dragons, played some fine blood bowl at times, though not consistent enough to earn a better placement. We did play some teams at their worst moment too, that helped for the rankings.
We still need to figure out how to use certain players and what direction to take the team, but all in all we are satisfied with the season.
Season stats are impressive too: 8/4/2 w/d/l ratio nets us the 3rd seed overall, with the best defence of the whole league with only 8 TDs suffered throughout the 14 games of the regular season! Only team to suffer less than 10 TDs in the regular season...wow! Offence, our achille's heel, was only tied for 7th best...will work on it!!
First game of the Argos was the last of the former teams season...a draw against the Chimpanzees. Not too shabby considering that 4 players played under-skilled (if that's even a term) and that the new coach had no time to prepare before the game itself!
Let's see how they fare in the Jester Cup!!
First JC game we beat in overtime the Dragons 4-3. Hard-fought game which saw the Argos make some real agile plays while the fans rained rocks on the other team. Not bad at all!
Second JC game we lost to the Paladins but suffered no perms at least. Chaotic game, our thrower got better but fumbled the pass that could have brought us to OT...oh well, good game anyway!
