This team is focused around the Shannara series of books by Terry Brooks, my personal favorite fantasy author. Twelve books and counting in this series, with at least two more on the way to finish the latest trilogy... Years from now, World War III destroys modern civilization and all our technology. Radiation effects alter humans into fantasy creatures, including dwarves, trolls, gnomes, etc. Magic is rediscovered to fill the void left by technology's disappearance, even as mankind attempts to rebuild its once great society. Jerle Shannara was a king of the Elves, who single-handedly (with some help, of course) ended a mortal threat to the world through use of a magical sword. His scions, or descendents, intermarried with humans, but retained enough of their elven ancestry to be able to use this magic. Hence, every few generations, the kin of Shannara were called upon again and again by the sage Allanon, keeper of mystic secrets and seemingly ageless, to save the world once more. With the help of some good and loyal friends, these otherwise ordinary people found within themselves the strength to face their nightmares, turning them into dreams for tomorrow... ******************************************************************************* Our 25th game was a celebration of reaching a milestone no other team I've coached has reached--surviving to reach 25 games! Not only did we survive to this point, but we won this game, have a (barely) winning record of 10/7/8, and are holding our own quite nicely. Reportedly, we put down such a beating on the orc team BoyzinPurple that it took them a long time to recover. Nice coach, Purplechest, one of my friends online and a coach I both respect and admire. I'm sure one day his orcs will want their chance at revenge... ******************************************************************************* Following our 47th game, and after much soul searching, it became apparent in the 10 games since our disastrous defeat at the hands of the orc team Metal Hammer (coached by Arlecchino) that drastic reorganization of the team from the top of the manning chart down was required to regain our competitive edge. In that game we suffered 2 niggles and 2 RIP, having a third person aging a niggle to boot. Since then, the team has gone 1/3/6, suffering a combined cas count of 20/12/3, not couting the three niggles picked up via aging during that time frame. More than a third of the cas suffered in under a fifth of the team's history... We used to be masters of our own destiny, climbing all the way up to TR 265, tenth best human team in all of fumbbl, and virtually injury free. But I fear I've been pushing my team members too hard, not giving them enough time to rest between matches. The team's super stars, in particular, have expressed a desire to take a permanent vacation from this sport, to live out their lives in peace, spending their hard earned retirement checks from a job very well done. And so it came to pass that we released all the team members whose injuries, however incurred, prevent them from joining the team bus on gamedays. They've done their job admirably, and we shall dearly, dearly miss Wren, Walker, Will and Redden. Their contributions to the team cannot be underestimated. However, their reputations tended to preceed them into new towns along the circuit, and the only teams willing to face us were all extremely bulky and tough themselves, and what is a coach supposed to do when he schedules a game vs such monsters and then his stars refuse to play? Perhaps from this rebirth of the team with fresh talent, we'll find new coaches willing to play us and continue the Scions tradition of sportsmanship (aka no fouling) and team play, always trying above all to enjoy the game for its own sake. You wanna know the fast way to lower your TR? Try firing three super-stars, one star, one vet, six cheerleaders and six assistant coaches. Overnight, we went from 251/185 to 127/113. Maybe now, having shed some excess weight off our TR, we can rebuild to our former glory, perhaps even beyond! Gonna be a long road, though... ******************************************************************************* Game 50 was supposed to be a celebration game, commemorating a half-century of playing. But it turned out to be a true disaster, picking up another niggle and two RIP, including our beloved leader Allanon, the frenzy ogre who's been with the team since the start. It was our first, and last, game ever against khemri. Dance of Death is not a particularly impressive khemri team, and in fact has since retired from competition, but it's soured our desire to ever face another khemri team again. Leaderless now, we're searching for a new direction for the team... ******************************************************************************* Another milestone for the Scions--we have finally reached 25 wins as a team!!! A pitch invasion by our fans helped greatly, but in the end a combination of hard hitting and a superb passing game ensured the victory over a deserving dark elf squad. Twenty-five wins down, here's hoping for many more! ******************************************************************************* The Scions have now reached 75 games played as a franchise, and we're showing no signs of slowing down! Some lovely and Graceful Ladies of the Night decided to dance around the pitch with us, their blodging giving my team fits trying to knock them over. But when it really counted, we were successful. We could push her around all the time, but if she held the ball, POW!!! Morg was there to lend a hand while our two blitzers mended, but there really proved no need for him, as even our lowly catchers were dishing out POW's and knocking amazons out to recover the ball. Our overall record is just slightly in the losing column, although by only a single game; it won't take long for us to return to our winning ways! ******************************************************************************* Hang your heads, the Scions are no more. After their 93rd game, a nasty report was made by an outside observer accusing me of cheating following a post-crash reload. My opponent didn't think so; he thought it was a hard-earned draw. But the admins had made up their minds, and the Scions were forced to retire as punishment, based on the words of somebody observing the game. Gone is our chance at reaching 100 games, or spiring a legendary player, or any of a number of other dreams for the team. Guess we'll leave that distinction to the rats... ******************************************************************************* Team Records: Biggest Win: 4-0 Worst Loss: 0-4 Highest scoring game: 4-4 Most cas caused: 4/1/1, 6/0/0, 4/2/0 Most cas suffered: 4/2/2 Largest gate: 149k TR: 265 (10th of all fumbbl human teams) Win Streak: 2 Non-losing streak: 8 (current 1) Non-winning streak: 12 (current 2) Losing streak: 5 Skill rolls: 120 Doubles: 15 +Str: 6 +Agi: 5 +Mv: 6 13 current players--combined 304 games, 380 spp 42 past players (21 dead, 21 retired)--combined 884 games, 1279 spp ******************************************************************************* Team performance vs other races: Amazon 4-3-0 Chaos 4-3-8 Chaos Dwarf 3-2-4 Dark Elf 5-1-3 Dwarf 1-0-1 Elf 1-0-1 Goblin 0-0-1 High Elf 0-1-1 Human 2-1-3 Khemri 0-0-1 Lizard 0-1-2 Necro 2-0-1 Orc 3-3-6 Rotter 0-1-0 Skaven 2-4-2 Undead 2-0-2 Wood Elf 3-1-4 ******************************************************************************* Individual FUMBBL Top 10 Record Holders (at time of retirement/death): Will Ohmsford (ret) *All time record holder for human linemen for completions* Wren Elessedil (ret) 5th all time for most cas by a human blitzer 9th all time for most cas by a human team member (all positions) Bremen III (RIP) 10th all time for most cas by a human thrower ******************************************************************************* Current FUMBBL Top 10 Record Holders: ******************************************************************************* Still in contract negotiations: Amberle V Brin Ohmsford V Redden alt Mer V ******************************************************************************* Past Team Super Stars: Legends: Mega-stars: Super-stars: Ellcrys III (RIP), Walker (ret), Wren (ret), Will (ret) Stars: Bremen III (RIP), Redden II (ret), Menion II (RIP) Current Team Roster: Legends: Mega-stars: Super-stars: Stars: Bek II Emerging stars: Allanon II, Wren III, Bremen IV, Will IV, Ellcrys IV, Coll IV, Brin IV Veterans: Walker IV, Menion III, Jair III, Par II Experienced: King IV Rookies: Shea IV ******************************************************************************* Special note to potential challengers: Do not bother to challenge me if you are a khemri team or if you consider fouling to be other than a desperation tactic (not just dirty players). Both are in the rules, both exist, I must accept that fact. But I won't play them. |
