| <hr> <h6 align-"center">Founding</h6> <p>The Sextons originally developed from a 'friendly' league that played in the Empire town of Hewton. Squads of between six and ten amateurs would play games in the streets and lots of the town. Finding a suitable pitch was often troublesome, and one popular choice was a graveyard next to a local church. This excellent pitch was scouted, reasonably enough, by the sextons who tended its grounds.<br>In fact, the church's team was the premier team in the town. A local merchant witnessed a match and quickly grabbed the young talent on the cheap.
