When the dust cleared, the bodies were strewn all over the place... Shattered tents, broken cages and smashed carts littered the grove where the circus had camped for the night. There had been little warning when the Orcs attacked, and there was not so much a battle as a massacre. Not a single survivor left. It was only later that there was an explanation as to why the Circus of Wonders continues to exist in its current form. Most of the bodies were out in the elements for a few days before they began to stir for the first time. A strange sight, as the sea of garish and gory colours slowly rose up from the site where they had rested. Deep beneath the ground, unknown to the newly risen, an ancient object of power pulsed with warmth, its magic now coursing through the animated forms. It was a gradual awakening, as the bodies returned, and eventually, the minds. The few that actually saw the Orcs before the attack recalled what little details they could muster. The search began. It wasn't a taxing one for most of the while, as the trail of carnage left behind was not subtle. One of the remaining survivors of a nearby village was encountered and interrogated as to what she'd seen. One of the things she remembered most vividly was the sight of Orcs gleefully tossing around a ball used in a common competitive sport as her village burned in the background. After some persuit of the trail, it eventually grew cold, as it seemed though the Orcs met a fleet of ships and set sail to parts unknown. Undaunted, the Circus began thinking of this memory of a ball being tossed around, and chose to use this as the way they may track down their murderers. It was known that this was a popular Orcish past time, and may hold the key to one day getting their revenge!
