The Knee Height Lumber Jacks have started off as my "learning" team. Who uses a goblin team to learn with? I do. They're fun, they've got secret weapons and no one really minds as much if you lose in with one. Well, not as much anyway. At least I'm guaranteed some games in , and hopefully one coach's learning curve (and probable fall from grace) doesn't disrupt the highly competetive atmosphere of Blackbox. Game 1: A necromantic team. Result: Lost 1:2 Thoughts: Much like my experiences in LRB4, goblins rock. I mean, I lost and all, but some of the crap my goblins managed to pull off was amazing. I have no idea how many tricky situations they managed to get me out of. A huge shout out to my pogoer "The Wonderous Flick", who was indeed wonderous. The crowd killed him for his smart-arsery, but thems the breaks. The king is dead, long live Flick II. Strangely enough, I didn't really learn all that much. Or rather, I learned some very bad habits as well as the inevitability of an occaisional 2-dice-against block. With a RR they can save you sometimes. I also learned that sometimes the odds are so heavily in your favour that you really shouldn't lose. I still did. I also learned that I really should look up the TTM rule. Issue still pending. Also, regeneration sucks big hairies, a few early rolls in my favour would have changed things a bit. Game 2: Another necromantic team. Result: Got curb stomped badly (and lost 0:5 or 4 or something. I'm getting therapy for it). Thoughts: Remember those bad habits and the dice being in your favour? Well sometimes they're not. Sometimes you just roll average. Then those bad habits kill people. Dice don't kill goblins, I do. I could complain about my bad luck, my bribes not working, my lack of knowledge of TTM or even my choice of inducements (bribes rather than Nobbla, what was I thinking?). But really, I was outplayed fair and square. Then a couple of people died. Then it was getting close to the point where I was thinking that knocking out a couple of goblins and conceding might be a better option (less than 3 rule). I didn't really lose much team-wise, but then I had the brilliant idea of buying an apothecary with my winnings. Rather than, I don't know, an extra goblin to replace the chainsaw when he gets sent off? Or maybe I wouldn't have gotten the free journeyman then. Or something. Must not play when really, really tired...... |
