I have a theory, being that every pen & paper role-player thinks of one of those big classic high fantasy settings as his "first love" that will always be special to him, no matter how much it resembles all the others. To me, that setting is Krynn. I have never played the imfamous Dragonlance campaign, but my first real P&P group played AD&D 2nd set on Krynn (I played a Kagonesti Ranger). And I've read the novels by Weis and Hickman, all of them, yes, even the Age of Men stuff which was actually better than I had expected. Say one thing for Dragonlance, say it has some great villains. First and foremost of course the half-siblings Raistlin Majere and Kitiara Uth Mathar. Then, Lord Verminaard who has lent me his name on RPG forums for more than a decade now, and from whom my Fumbbl nick is also derived. Mina, even, the Age of Men antagonist. And last not least, Soth, the original Death Knight, Lord of Dargaard Keep and bearer of the scorched Black Rose crest. This team salutes him. |
