When the Empire was racked by a vicious civil war, Mannfred deemed it time to strike. His Undead legions crossed the Sylvanian border in the depths of winter and marched through the snows to Altdorf. They put any villagers they met into the ranks of their army. In the infamous Winter War of 2032, Mannfred defeated several Imperial armies that attempted to block his path. Victory followed victory, and his force reached Altdorf in late winter. He arrived to find the city battlements empty of defenders.

Triumph filled Mannfred. He looked set to take the Empire's greatest city when the Grand Theogonist Kurt III appeared on the battlements and began to recite the Great Spell of Unbinding from the Liber Mortis. Seeing his followers begin to crumble to dust, Mannfred ordered a hasty retreat. Although he was probably the most powerful of the Vampire Counts, his foes now seemed prepared to meet the Undead threat head on.

Eventually, Mannfred was driven back into the Sylvanian forests. Determined not to make the same mistake as they had before, the desperate nobles of the Empire swore a truce among themselves and slowly but surely began to scour the Sylvanian woods aided by the Dwarfs. Eventually Mannfred was brought to battle at Hel Fenn and cut down by the Count of Stirland as he attempted to flee. His body was lost at the very edge of the great swamp and was never found. Thus was ended the threat of the Vampire Counts, or so it seemed.

But Mannfred did not perish at Hel Fenn as most believe. He has been sleeping and gathering strength in Sylvania these many years. During the Storm of Chaos, many thousands of Chaotic warriors in small forces and warbands made their way into the Empire. It is no surprise then, that many of these Chaos worshippers crossed the unmarked boundaries into the lands of the Vampire Counts. The forces of Chaos weathered many attacks from the Undead, who thinned the invaders' numbers dramatically. Though dreadfully afraid of the foes they faced, the warriors were scared even more by the thought of failing the Conqueror and their own Dark Gods. They pressed on despite their losses, and the attacks of the Vampires and their shambling legions grew ever more frequent.

The fighting stirred Mannfred von Carstein from his deathly slumber. Ruler of all Sylvania and most deadly of the Vampire Counts, Mannfred resolved to crush this invasion of his ancestral lands. In between battles, Mannfred sought entertainment. He gathered a portion of his Thralls to play Blood Bowl. If they please Him, then perhaps they will be granted eternal unlife by their Dark Lord.

Mannfred rested his army in the woodlands, Athel Loren, and the Suckers were inticed into a game versus Tree Hugging Elves. Taking a cue from their dark Master, the Suckers feasted on the warm blood of the Elves which forced them into submission.

The Suckers found their next match with a traveling band of Dark Elves, the Darkend Slaves. The Suckers were the meal on this field, and two unless Thralls gave their lives on the pitch. Mannfred, so please with the Suckers' initial performance, used his powers to animate from the fallen Thralls his new follwer, Count Oleg!

Blood Bowl being a dangerous sport to play (sometimes even more dangerous than warfare), caused a Vampire team, Soul Gouger, to retire early from the United Humanist Federation. As a result, the Commissioner invited Mannfred's Slavic Suckers into the U.H.F. to take over for their fallen commrades. Their first match versus Transylvania 9-0210 was challenge for the Suckers. The opposing Vampires, Oliver Pike and Brenda Von Walsh, controlled the ball well for most of the game until a timely blitz came from the bloodthirsty Count Oleg which knocked the ball free. Count Oleg got the ball back and heaved it down field to Pavel. Pavel kept the ball away until the final seconds and ran it in. Count Oleg was the overall star of the game and was awarded the MVP. Mannfred, so proud of his boys, raised Count Dusan!

The Suckers' next challenege was versus the Thrall Seekers. A slugfest of epic proportions, it ended in a 1-0 victory for the Suckers. Count Oleg was voted MVP, but, alas, began to show his age. He must have angered Mannfred to have his dark powers limited so.
