| Like the extra lanes on the Auckland harbour bridge, the Nippon Clip-Ons are a recent addition to Antipodean society, and just as hastily grafted on. It will therefore come as no surprise that the Clip-Ons are an accurate cross-section of Nipponese society, albeit in miniature. From the silent and secretive Ninjas (so well-disguised that even their gender is unknown), to the noble Samurai, to the unusually common homicidal maniacs, everything is as you would expect. However, being but a tiny colony in the vast and remote Lost Isles of Elithis, it was inevitable that the Clip-Ons would have to cut corners somewhere. So it is that the Linos are recruited from among the fierce Nipponese womenfolk (something that would be considered taboo in the Old Country, where they are expected to be demure and self-effacing). Flower, Blossom, Tealady et al. are what is known colloquially as "export models". |
