The Dublin Death Row are a unique experiment in sports, entertainment and criminal justice. The team is made up entirely of convicted criminals awaiting execution under death sentences. By waiving their right to appeal, thus saving the government millions in legal costs, the players have the opportunity to win their freedom if they can bring home the world cup. In 2065 the team got off to a promising start, finishing second in their qualifying group. However, at the team's 2066 pre-season training camp an escape attempt resulted in the deaths of 5 players 9 guards 4 fans and the entire coaching staff. 8 of the original team escaped. 3 were later recaptured and executed and 5 still remain at large. The result of this carnage was that no team could be fielded for the 2066 season. However, a new group of inmates has been assembled and currently prepare to compete in the 2067 season. |
