Within the Kingdom of Nagarythe, ruled over by Alith Anar the Shadow King, live several tribes of wild elves (not aelves – this spelling error is a clear mark of the poorly educated and avaricious) who disdain cities and fortresses to dwell among the shadowed forests. Among the most hardened and embittered of these tribes are the naGARYtheans.

The naGARYtheans prize storytelling, performance, and the (overly) dramatic arts as a gift from Loec. As such, on birth, infants are named for famous creators, actors, and performers as an honorific, in the hopes that they too will be bestowed with greatness. (Although, confusingly, no matter their name, all within the tribe will respond to the shorthand moniker of Gaz).

This tribe are NOT to be confused with the separate tribes of the naGARRYtheans and the naGARETHeans. Many an unwary traveller has made this mistake to their peril. To misnomer the naGARYtheans is considered a deadly insult, punished on pain of, er, pain. The tribes are bitter rivals, divided by centuries of hate and several consonants.

Alith Cooper, a distant relative of Alith Anar (he is actually the son of Anar’s auntie's, cousin's father's, younger brother’s mistress) was intrigued by this rivalry. He staged a Blood Bowl tournament among the naGARYtheans, naGARRYtheans, naGARETHeans, and even the lesser known naGARTHeans to identify the most talented players to form the greatest Blood Bowl team ever seen in all of Nagarythe. Unfortunately, despite going to this trouble, all he got was this lousy team. (Occasionally, due to lack of attention to detail, a member of one of the other tribes will be grudgingly accepted into the team.)

Nevertheless, Alith Cooper decided to take them to tour the Old World in an attempt to demonstrate the superiority (complex) of the Elves.
