Culture Ships

All team members are named after spaceships of "The Culture", a benevolent, hedonistic and - in it´s utopian sense - almost communist spacefaring power, which consists of Artificial Intelligences ("minds") and various humanoids.

"The Culture" is the product of english writer Iain M. Banks and is prominently displayed in most of his books.
These are:
- Excession
- Inversions
- Use of Weapons
- The Player of Games
- Look to Windward
- State of the Art
- Consider Phlebas

Banks is commonly seen as one of the most influental SF writers today and his first novel (Consider Phlebas) has been called the "resurrection of the Space Opera genre".


*** A Note on the Names ***

The 3 letters at the beginning of most playernames refer to the class of spaceship. Spaceships are run by selfconscious artificial intelligences and choose their names themselves. A roman numeral at the end of the name shows the number of incarnations a single ship went through up to date.

[Eccentric]: Spacecraft that is considered not part of "The Culture" anymore.
[Sabbaticaler]: Spacecraft that took a sabbatical from Culture politics and business.

Orbital: Artificial World. Resembles in shape and form Larry Niven´s Ringworld.
