In the deep harbors of Altdorf, ocean-going ships unload many types of cargoes from all over the world especially retired Blood Bowl teams. Altdorf is also the home of the Colleges of Magic, the foremost schools of sorcery in the Old World. It was here on the shores of Altdorf that the Head Professor of the Faculty of Healing Arts saw two human Blood Bowl teams The Bay View Bombers & The Beaufort Polar Bears returning home, bloody, beaten and well below full compliment. The Professor inquired about the two teams and how they had faired on the pitch and was surprised when no player responded. It seemed they just wanted to forget the most terrible part of their young lives and return to farming and trade work, forgetting the thrill of the crowd, chasing fame and gold across the Old World. Needless to say the Professor was intrigued and later contacted the managers of the two teams. The proposal was that the Colleges of Magic, Faculty of Healing Arts would sponsor the two teams if they agreed to combine with each other. Once the coaches of the teams heard this they dropped to the floor laughing and wheezing. They explained that they had both lost so many rising stars that even if they put both teams together they still wouldn’t have a starting eleven. The Head Professor did not appreciate the smug response from the team representatives. He told the coaches to bring their worst maimed and battered players to the laboratory at twelve midnight. When they all met the lab was dark with only a few oil lamps burning, the coaches and team mates could see several wizard-type looking fellows standing in a circle around who they recognized as the Head Professor. He quietly told them how their faculty had fallen behind in new initiatives and that other faculties were producing newer and more refined potions and scrolls much more often thus the Faculty of the Healing Arts had been unofficially renamed the Faculty of Aging Farts. This clearly was a soft spot for the grey haired wizards so when the ogre present let a little squeaker go they all looked as though they might just turn the lot of players into toads. As clearer heads prevailed they explained that they had been working on a healing potion that could heal all old and reoccurring wounds. The coaches and managers almost shait a brick! The players from both teams who had been seen as complete write offs due to broken collar bones, smashed hands, and pinched nerves were told to drink up. In the coming weeks almost every player (except those in need of a necromancer) on both teams drink the healing elixir and returned to a new training pitch completely sponsored by the faculty. The two teams took no time at all to make quick friends with each other with a new lease on life they all through themselves full tilt into training. When it came time for the new team to set sail for their first match, who else but the ogre asked what their new team name was. Everyone looked blankly at each other; the wizards hadn’t mentioned anything and the old team names had such bad memories associated with them neither coach wanted to use them. The managers went to see the Head Professor and inquired if they had a name for the team, the wizard made it very clear that they wanted no official ties made to the team or to the healing drink. It seemed that one of the brothers of the faculty had discovered a flaw in their ingredients so how long the potion would last came under question. Some might remain healed until their death while others might re gain their old injuries and new ones as well. The Professor apologized and assured the managers that they would still financially back the teams’ progression while on tour... Players the Healing Potion failed: #8 Lauritz de'Markos (New Recruit) Catcher 2g 0spp , n, m, n #7 Gannon (Bay View Bombers) Catcher 4g 8spp , d #3 Garmund the 4th (Beaufort Polar Bears) Blitzer 1g 0spp , d "Three things make The Empire great – faith, steel and gunpowder!" - Magnus the Pious |
