Some five hundred years before the War of the Ring, the Dwarves of this clan dwelt in the northern Grey Mountains, but faced continual attacks from the Cold-Drakes of the Northern Wastes. Upon the death of King Dáin I under the fangs and claws of one of these foul beasts, his surviving sons led an exodus into the east.
