This served both as a test of dominance and a medium for the exchange of goods and services, sort of like a jolly bazaar of death. These games quickly grew in scale and popularity, and soon dominated the culture of the Ballers completely. The Grapecrushers Riot By the year 700, the system was enormous and unregulated. Freelance leagues via'd for the paticipation of teams, who held loyalty only to the material benefits of their talents. Crime was rampant; bookies would take bets and take steps to fix the results of the games they offered odds on. Key members of teams would often wind up inexplicably full of dagger holes the day before a big game. Refs were some of the most corrupt members of this society, and gigantic bribes were a matter of course for honest calls in most games. This all culminated during the Grapecrushers vs the Foul Balls match, the up-to-now biggest match the region had managed to organize. As the members of the Foul Balls stood smirking, the ref's calls for the Grapecrushers to take to the field grew louder and louder. The fans, over which there were over ten thousand, grew restless. A truth was spreading from the back of the stands forward: that every one of the thirteen members and the coach of the Grapecrushers had been found dead that morning. As the captain of the Foul Balls moved forward to request the trophy and prize cattle by default from the perplexed organizers, a stone flew from the crowd and struck him dead.

Fall Skirmishes

|
