Once upon a time (a couple of moons ago actually), a mottled band of goblins sat sulking under a half-collapsed and seldom visited bridge. They were hungry. They were dead-tired of always losing matches noone even visited. They had to get an edge, or get lost. It was then in their darkest hour, that Ugruk, while rummaging through the leftovers of some poor farmer the trolls had blinsided, noticed something out of the ordinary: A pile of poorly printed cards, portraiting imbecile and cuddly versions of existing beasts and monsters. Ugruk recognized these cards, they were for some reason incrediby precious to 'umie, 'alflin and olf children all over the known world (some people say these things are hexed by the gods of chaos themselve, but we all know how some people are). Ugruk had also spotted parents, driven by their offspring's whining, to pay outrageous sums for these cards when he'd snuck into markets to steal. A magnificent idea, coming from a goblin at least, managed to form in his well-stirred brain... These days the Pokémob have stolen just as much of the toy cards' image as physically possible: They wear crudely made and brightly coloured costumes on court and naming themselves in the image of this peculiar children's product (with a slight change in team-name to delay fining from angered merchants just a little longer). The trolls have to be bodypainted since they are too big for wearing the clothes the (not very tailor-experienced) goblins make. All in all, they look like a ragtag, mean collection of props on the run from the amusement park. But it is worth every mocking remark from their fellow greenskins: Ugruk's plan actually did pull off. As soon as word of the odd-styled team hit street, and spread, virtually tens of thousands spectators began to show up on the galleries. Most of these people wouldn't attend a Blood Bowl match if they got paid for it, but they all have one thing in common (often two or three): Sniveling little brats that would chew off their left arm to see the fuzzy beings of their obsession come to life and battle it out. These are the real fans of the Pokémob. Hence, the team are under a strict constraint to act out their designated role as much as possible, off the court as well as on it. They've also gathered a veritable army of personnel to handle off-court business, selling low-quality trinkets and barely digestible confections bearing the Pokémob name (in case of injury, these sideliners are pulled in to fill out the blood-stained disguises). Yes, business is booming and their fame something other goblins can only dream of even though the gameplay is just as bad or worse. Who cares if the majority of the home audience just lost their milk-teeth? Because when the Pokémob enters the court a deafening, high-pitched cheer rise to the sky: "WE CHOOSE YOU, PIKACHU!!" |
