Chronicle Prologue This chronicle shall record the glorious deeds achieved and the dire losses suffered by our proud mercenary band Ironfist's Nomads. It shall keep track of the line of events and major turning points, while referring to the captain's log for details on individual encounters. I am Gorazin Grundisson, son of Grundi Garilsson and Gottra Boriasdottir and I am the first Team Chronicler assigned by Team Captain Dimrond Ironfist. The day is Friday, 3rd of October 2514. Chronicle Origins: From the Ashes... Once upon a time, there was a dwarven mercenary band called "Blackhammer's Boars", led by Thurgrom Blackhammer, son of Thungni "The Beard" Hargrimsson and Fregar Valmasdottir. One day in the year 2497, the Boars stumbled into a Waaagh! and got quickly decimated, albeit fighting recklessly. Blackhammer was killed by an orc shaman's foul magic and in the end only five of his men survived: The Ironfist brothers Dimrond and Dwinbar, Mordin Moreksson, Kazi "Blue-Shield" Dargosnev and myself. Dimrond Ironfist, the Boars' second-in-command, led the survivors into safety. New plans had to be forged out. Kazi settled down as blacksmith in a human settlement, we haven't heard of him since. So, four stout dwarven warriors became the heart of a new mercenary band, "Ironfist's Boars". Chronicle Early Years: New Recruits, New Name, New Hope For seven years after their founding, the Boars' earned their living with small contracts like escorting poor caravans, guarding half-empty warehouses and hunting down mutated vermin. Their numbers grew slowly: Few dwarves were eager to earn a living as roaming sell-swords during those days and next to no one wanted to stay, One day, someone suggested to change the Surprisingly it worked, and after three more years, the Nomads were a squad of twelve well attuned fighters. By that time, we signed a profit-yielding contract, that led to hunting down Skaven in the Grey Mountains, Marienburg and Altdorf for two years - tedious, sickening work, that made us proficient in that area. Chronicle Moving South, Discovering Grindball One can only hunt Skaven for so long. Not getting any other offers, we crossed the Grey Mountains and entered Bretonnia. We should have known better, as its rulers are renown for their scorn towards the dogs of war. Instead if earning, we had to pay double for everything until we finally reached Estalia. Yet, payment was bad there, and as we refused to risk our lives for their domestic political struggles and little money, good times were scarce. Five poor years after our Skaven hunts, we were residing in a dwarven keep close to the shore, at the southernmost tip of Estalia. We were merely tolerated until one day, a pirate ship appeared. The crew called itself "Sartosa Shipwrecks" and issued a challenge in a game they called "Grindball". Name generator |
