The Grumbblin Fumbblr's formed in the late spring of 2019, and started off their career with a modest draw against a down on their luck Chorf team with only one centaur. The game was tense throughout and very end to end, yet despite a few casualties on both sides, the stat boards were fairly bare. Nonetheless, the Grumbblers were happy with a solid 0-0 result. News of the new Ogre's stalwart defence trickled down the grapevine, and grabbed the interest of a few more soon-to-be fans as they turned up to the following weeks game to not only see the Grumbblrs maintain their clean sheet, but even score... Twice! No one was more shocked than Marv when he stumbled over some random white line to hear a whistle blow and the crowd cheer. Looking down in his hand he could see a small, brown, spikey thing. Then it dawned on him... It wasn't edible. He dropped the ball but it was too late, he had scored a steal from a puny ghouls hands. Not to be outdone, Divvot decided (well we think it was a conscious decision) to pick up a loose ball on the grumbblrs receive and charge headlong through a wall of zombies. The shambling undead had no idea what hit them, and the ogres themselves weren't exactly sure what they had hit, only that by the end of the ordeal they were dead, and for some reason feeling down because they conceded 2 touchdowns, whatever a touchdown was. After a crackin start to their season, the Grumbblrs were taken back a bit by their next opponent; the Goblins of "Magik Magik Ninja Whut!". Not only were all the black robes and wizard hats confusing, but the Ogres just couldn't quite figure out why such puny runts had challenged them to a game of fisty-cuffs. With Aaramus out with an injury a fresh young Ogre got the chance to take his place in the starting line-up; Alx. After several turns of standing around dumbfounded at their opponent (painfully so some might say) they soon came to realise why the Goblins were so confident. The crowd roared as a metal teeth chattered, whirred and finally glugged to a halt. Alx, had now become two Ogres instead of one. Split right down the middle, the Grumbblrs then realised these gobbos werent to be taken lightly. Yet despite deciding to give it their all, they couldnt quite grasp the oily little blighters. In the final moments of the game, a draw looked likely, until the Ninjas troll pulled out the impossible. A long soaring blitz, knocking the ball free from Adokhuls chunky fingers, going for the ball and picking it up, even the troll hadnt quite realised what he'd done. A nearby gobbo saw his moment, stole his own ball and ran it into the endzone for a final turn touchdown, earning a fortunate win for the goblins, and a heart-felt defeat for the Ogres. A procession will be held later tonight for Alx's funeral, but be sure to bring two bouquets, cause... you know... there'll be two coffins for him. We didn't want to do it half-hearted after all! One defeat led to another, and one broken bone to another. The Orcs of Zebut Nation Greener Stats gave the Grumbblrs a strong beat-down. A combination of boneheads and Aaramus taking a broken neck (despite medical attention) meant the Ogres just couldnt ever ger a stable hold on the game. Despite a solid defense, the orcs muscle proved too much and scored in the final seconds of both halves, dishing out the Ogres second match loss AND yet another Ogre lost from the roster for next weeks game. Game 5 was against Skaven. Continuous whining from the opposing coach got into the heads of the Ogres, and depsite continuously knocking over the rats, didn't do any damage all game. Gutters did their usual thing, and a 2-1 victory for the rats. The less said about this game the better. From rags to riches. Despite starting this week still bitter from their last match, the ogres came across possibly the most pleasant Lizard team in the entire region. Polite, honourable, and who put up one hell of a fight. The lizrads received and confidently ran the ball up the pitch. They met a fierce wall of stalwart ogres, but after knocking out Aaramus, they finally broke through to score. The Grumbblrs did punish this injuring a couple of skinks, with a 3rd sent off. Starting the 2nd half with only 1 skink meant the lizards really needed to hold off the Ogres next assault. Sadly, even with some early pressure, the injuries started to wrack up on the lizards side and they couldnt stop a pesky little gnoblar slipping through and scoring in the closing moments of the game. Whilst only a draw, the Grumbblrs will be more than happy with that result to break their losing streak, AND they got a record number of injuries in a game, against lizards no less! Something tells me that'll never happen again. |
