Winifred - Weethao as her parents know her, Wini to her friends - was one of the smartest kids in her bloodbowl school. However, her reckless fouling and lack of respect for the ref meant she often got herself kicked off the pitch. The course of her life changed forever when she found an old football in a farmer's garage and decided to "take it out for a spin." The owner, a former bloodbowl player from a blackbox league, was awestruck by her natural talent and offered to teach her what he knew. Now Wini is known as the "woman without fear," showing off her skills in matches all across the country. That nickname would be tested when, during one of her games, she spotted a creature she could scarcely describe: a thing with leathery wings and a single, mutated, pus-filled eye named Mootzilla.

Block does not lie. In the past, people have said hurtful things to Rita. They have threatened her, deemed her inferior. But ever since she started blitzing competitively, Rita has only cared about block. Block says that Rita is faster then the rest. It says she is stronger and has trained harder. Now, she may have to fight for her life. Someone is after her. That much she's sure of. She has no idea who it is or why they want her, but there have been several strange men hanging around her dorm. They plan to make an example of her. But they will have to catch her, and block says they cannot on a "both down".

Leo Anderson has spent his whole life getting into the deadliest and most obscure matches of the realm. Along the way, he's lost good people. He often questions whether such athletic pursuits have been worth the lives lost. His most recent match, an ill-fated regular season game against the Fellowship of the Spice, ended in complete disaster. Winifred was the only one of his people to survive, or at the very least, to remain human. Leo is sick of burying people who trusted him. But now he knows these exhibitions aren't purely athletic in nature - and he won't quit until the job is done.
Trish had always excelled in both passing and picking up the ball, her unwavering focus on excellence and her fearless disposition a winning combination. Given her stellar athletic records, everyone expected to see her become something great. Instead, Trish took a job at a down-on-their-spirits bloodbowl team. The initial shock of her humble work eventually wore off, and the exceptional Trish Scarborough faded into obscurity. This suited Trish just fine, as it made it harder for anyone to realize the truth: her job was a cover for her true work as a ringer with the FACFL, Nuffles elite recruitment agency.

Most members of the Muldoon family are part of the bloodbowl team in some way or another. Not long ago, the youngest Muldoon brother, Tommy, got his cleats. Armed with an eye for detail, fierce courage, and his trusty gloves, Becky, Tommy is dedicated to scoring... but when he was loaned out to the FACFL, he found that he was not prepared for the bizarre set ups cropping up in this league. Even so, whether the pitch is pouring rain or in a blizzard, Tommy will not rest until he can stop the other team from scoring.
Tony's tracked down low-life ball carriers in every lousy corner of the pitch, but nothing could have prepared him for the thing he took down in the FACFL. It had the form of a man, more or less, but it had no serious or lasting injuries, like some horrid creature fresh out of recruitment. It stank of 1's, skulls, and turnovers. He should've let it go when it ran for the sidelines, but he'd never let a ball escape before, and he wasn't about to start then. Ever since, he's found a new kind of dirtbag to hunt. Big guy or lineman, Tony will take it down... if someone is willing to pay him for it.

Daniela always figured she had a good life. She had a loving, boisterous team. She had a steady job that used her brains and her hands. She had enough petty cash to spend on cheerleaders, assistant coaches, and inducements. Then her teammate, Ramon, got caught up in some bribery. Her mother warned her to be careful, that darkness lay ahead. Daniela set a bunch of dice behind the door for her mother's sake, to bring her luck - just as she'd been taught as a child. When Daniela awoke to find them all on 1's, she was determined to figure out what happened and fix it. Just like she always did.

Zoey had known that she was special ever since Nuffle spoke to her one night when she was six years old... the night that terrible riot took away her parents. He told her that He had chosen her from among all the people of the world to be His star player. She would protect the ball carrier and punish the wicked. Since then, He comes to her in times of trouble, offering guidance and comfort. Zoey now travels from city to city, taking work as a bloodbowl player to support herself. When she isn't working, she stalks the pitch, guided by the Lord's voice. Wherever she finds wickedness, she strikes it down without remorse or hesitation.

When up-and-coming bloodbowl player Nathaniel Cho was offered lots of dough for a title match, he thought he'd finally hit the big time. But his promoter turned out to be part of the notorious Orkestra gang, and Nathaniel was pressured to fix fights by taking a dive every now and then. His refusal led to his brother Randall's "accident." Nathaniel is rightly fed up with the orks endangering the realms citizens on a nightly basis. Now he puts his fists to better use, patrolling the pitch and defending others from harm. But he's about to find out there are much more dangerous things that lurk in the shadows than simple linemen...
William Yorick never wanted to be a bloodbowl player. He had trained to be an actor and had worked for years in Ubersreik, taking whatever parts were available. Bloodbowl reenactments were the best stuff, of course, but after many years and hardly any roles, he was forced to admit that the stage was not his destiny. Being a lineman was tedious work, but the opposing team made for an excellent audience, and William always did love a soliloquy. The job took a dark turn when he found a bunch of degenerates playing in the FACFL. Ever since that night, Yorick has kept their opposing linemen at bay, using whatever means he can to protect the ball.
According to Bob, the secret to success as a bloodbowl player is persistence. People just need to be told how to roll bad. Repeatedly. Recently, Bob came into possession of a handful of "cursed" rerolls, and he hopes the same persistence he so famously advocates will help him to uncover their origin and purpose. If he plays his cards right, maybe this will be his big score. Maybe he'll finally be able to win the FACFL and buy that boat he's had his eye on and spend the rest of his days fishing in a tropical paradise. Or maybe Bob will finally come to see all that rolls is not 6's.
At night, "Ashcan" Pete sleeps wherever his travels take him: in the endzone, on the pitch, or maybe, if he's lucky, on the line of scrimmage. He bunks with his loyal hound dog, Duke, on one side and his bloodbowl bowl on the other. And sometimes when Pete sleeps, he dreams. He dreams of haunted, tortured pitches and of opposing teams. When he wakes up, he knows that someone needs his help, because his dreams are true. He could not say how long he has been on the pitch, living by his wits, but he can say for certain no place is too far to go to help a ball carrier in need. And as long as Pete can help his team, he is not likely to stop wandering any time soon.
