Ok, here's a little secret. I always sucked at Outrun. A lot. It was fun anyway.

Ok, so I've never actually played 2k3 and it is a picture of the 2k2 cover. So sue me. 2k2 died a horrible death and thank you very much for bringing up such a painful memory, you insensitive clod!
Sega's football is really the optimal mix of complexity and simplicty. Pick from a couple of plays and relatively easy controls, yet it's all customizeable enough to make it interesting. It's a good'un.
I can't remember the actual name of the game, it's been so bloody long. Might have been "Major League Baseball." I should look it up.
Growing up, we never had an Atari. For an awful long time, I was so painfully envious of all my 2600-endowed friends. I could play Space Invaders and Pitfall for hours... just becase. It was a video game.
Then we got the Intellivision and I got the last laugh. Intellivision baseball made the Atari version look like a complete joke. For a brief period of time, I got to be the envy of my friends. Life was good.
Then came the Commodore 64 and the NES. My reign of geekdom was over. For the time being...
I own a copy of NHL 2k2 for my Dreamcast and I haven't played it too terribly much. Seems good, though, so I threw it on the list. So sue me.

This is another one I'll have to come back and edit. I can't recall if the football game for Intellivision had an NFL license or what. I just remember that it rocked.
Play was almost a direct predecessor of Tecmo Bowl. Graphics were 1-bit sprites, but you got to pick plays just like in later games - the first of its kind, perhaps. Definitely the first I remember. The biggest downfall that I can recall was that you could only control one player on the field. You picked before the snap (or perhaps even as a part of the play.... tough to recall, tbh) and that was it. No switching. Ugh.
