Sure Hands
Purposely underscoring his persona with his musical work in the '90s when other producers and DJs were capitalizing to gain momentary fame from their work, LTJ Bukem showed that he was more interested in the innovation and progression of the music than in becoming a super star. He continues to work and create as a DJ and a producer for his labels and still isn't interested in being the center of attention. This is the type of musician we need more of - more art, less artist. (DJ Rating - 7/10)

DJ SS played an important role in the early-'90s development of drum'n'bass, releasing a number of formative tracks beginning in 1990 on his co-owned Formation label before returning in the mid-'90s with a plethora of productions after a brief sabbatical. (DJ Rating - 8/10)

Dauntless

He is partly responsible for the best, longest standing drum & bass radio station in the world – Kool FM 94.5.

DJ Ellis Dee has been DJing since the start of the acid house scene in 1988. After staging his own party which was a big success Ellis Dee was booked to play at "The Dungeon". After this, the bookings flooded in. Ellis Dee's name was firmly established when he headlined for Fantazia throughout 1992 and beyond, including performing as a PA under the name "Rhythm Section" along with Newton & Rennie Pilgrem. His mix tapes are classics from the day. (DJ Rating - 7/10)

Synonymous with the UKs jungle music scene throughout the 1990s, right through to the present day Dr S Gachet is one of the most versatile deejays you will ever witness. Between 1990 and 1994 his residencies and regular appearances included: Camden Palace - Lazerdome -The Rocket - Sterns - The Edge - Paradise Club - Universe - Helter Skelter - Dreamscape - Pure X - Dance Paradise and Living Dream, amongst others. 1995, however, signalled a pivotal moment for Gachet. The legendary jungle promoter AW(ay)O(f)L(ife) assigned Gachet permanent resident at the paradise club london & Ministry Of Sound, alongside Randall, Mickey Finn, Kenny Ken and Darren Jay. In the same year he became resident at World Dance. (DJ Rating - 8/10)

Mighty Blow
Fabio is the pioneering breakbeat DJ who, along with Grooverider, brought drum'n'bass into the British club scene. A DJ since the early '80s rare-groove and hip-hop periods, he was born in London and grew up in Brixton. Though he went to college for awhile and worked as an insurance agent, his burgeoning mixing career soon took center stage. A soul fan and early friend of fellow DJs Colin Dale and Tim Westwood, Fabio first made his name on the pirate station Phase 1. (DJ Rating - 8/10)

Guard
Hardcore/drum'n'bass DJ and producer Grooverider has over the years become almost synonymous with the London drum'n'bass scene. A DJ for over a decade spinning everything from soul-jazz and acid-house to hip-hop and hardcore breakbeat, "Grooverider the Hardcore Provider," as he's come to be known, has followed the evolution of drum'n'bass up from its earliest roots in breakbeat techno and happy hardcore on through to contemporary styles such as ambient and techstep. A residing DJ at some of London's biggest-name clubs (including Rage and his own long-running, highly lauded Metalheadz night at Blue Note), Grooverider's influence, not only on the sound but also the politics and ideology of jungle, is probably rivaled only by Goldie's (and then with not nearly the flamboyance). (DJ Rating - 9/10)

The term legend is thrown around all to often these days when discussing DJs. Every so often though, an act comes along who has more than earned the right to have such a tag associated with their name. DJ Randall is one such person. He is one of a handful of DJs who helped create the DnB movement as we know it today. He is one of the early leaders who helped give the sound its identity and created the blueprint for the style we love so much. When the now legendary AWOL Live Mixes were released, it was Randall who stood out above the others with his faultless selection and mixing skills. When Goldie was re-writing history with his Metalheadz night at the Blue Note, it was Randall who was one of its most popular residents. And when a young teenager by the name Andy C appeared on the scene, it was Randall who took him under his wing, producing together for a number of early Ram releases but more importantly, teaching him the art of not only mixing, but how to work the crowd. (DJ Rating - 10/10)

Although his Ganja Records label and tracks released under his own name and with the Ganja Kru have helped, it's the "DJ" at the front of Hype's name that has proved most important in raising his profile to the level of the Grooverider's, Goldie's, and LTJ Bukem's of drum'n'bass. A battle DJ of renown (he represented England in the 1989 DMCs), Hype had a history of electrifying deckwork before moving on from his reggae and hip-hop roots in the late '80s and latching onto house and hardcore. He was an early force on one of London's most influential pirate stations, Fantasy FM, and since then he's consistently topped bills on the international DJ circuit, landing awards for Best Male DJ and Best Radio DJ (in 1994 and 1995, respectively) at the U.K.'s prestigious Hardcore Awards. He's also one of London's popular Kiss FM's biggest attractions and was the force behind Suburban Base's popular multi-volumed mixed compilation series, Drum and Bass Selection. A champion of jungle's dancefloor purity, Hype has also rallied consistently against jungle's compartmentalization into artificial "scenes" such as ambient/intelligent and hip-hop/ragga. (Of course, his sets tend to consist almost exclusively of the latter, which somewhat undermines his argument.)

Hype began producing in 1990, engineering and co-producing tracks (including chart-toppers such as "Exorcist" and "The Bee") for hardcore staples Kickin', Strictly Underground, and Sub Base. Although he never lost touch with his breakbeat roots (even going so far as to spin hip-hop instrumentals over house tracks to add a bit of rhythmic flare), it wasn't until he launched his own Ganja label in 1994 (with "Cops") that he began seriously focusing on the post-rave possibilities of sampled breaks. The Ganja label's almost immediate popularity -- primarily through floor-fillers such as DJ Krome & Time's "Ganja Man" and DJ Zinc's penultimate 1995 anthem "Super Sharp Shooter" -- peaked in late 1995 with Still Smokin', a combined-release label compilation between Ganja and cohort Pascal's Frontline imprint, which became one of the highest-selling independent jungle compilations. Re-pressed in 1997, that success also led to a major label deal with MCA's Parousia sublabel and the establishment of True Playaz Music, a Hype-led DJ and production unit also including Zinc, Pascal, and Rude Bwoy Monty. True Playaz the label has also come to the fore as one of the more consistent outlets for innovative hardstep, a style that all but disappeared during the jump-up- and techstep-dominated mid-'90s. (DJ Rating - 10/10)

'Goldie' is to date the only player on my team named by another coach. Upon getting a game offer from 'Synn' he said he thought he should be in, so after the game that's what I did. I'd also avoided giving anyone the number 13 to this point. But after the game it seemed fitting to give that number to a player named by this coach.

Quick comment on the aforementioned game. I got OWNED. Never have I felt so uncomfortable on a Blood Bowl pitch for every turn of the game. I can only say that that's what it must be like to have a plastic bag held on your head, like the two bosses at the end of the movie 'Lucky Number Slevin'. Talk about getting suffocated and being able to do nothing about it. I'm just glad it's over... hope I don't have nightmares about it.

A true pioneer in the British jungle dance scene, Goldie is known just as much for his revolutionary drum'n'bass expressions as for his gold teeth and harsh attitude, making him one of the first real "personalities" of the scene. (DJ Rating - 7/10)
