Dont Drink and Drive
September 12 2002
Malibu, California: Actor Nick Nolte was arrested for investigation of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs after his car was seen swerving on a highway near his home, authorities said.
Nolte, 61, failed a field sobriety test after a California Highway Patrol officer stopped his car yesterday on the southbound Pacific Coast Highway, said Captain Dan Bower.
He remained in custody until about 8:30 pm yesterday when he was cited and released.
The actor's publicist, Arnold Robinson, said he had no immediate comment.
Although Nolte was booked for investigation of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Bower said "it probably wasn't alcohol." Blood tests to determine whether Nolte had drugs in his system won't be available for several days, he added.
Nolte had a reputation as a heavy drinker for years, once describing himself as a "functioning drunk." But in the mid-1990s he reportedly quit alcohol and became a health-and-fitness buff.

On July 28, 2006, at 2:36am PDT, Mel Gibson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after being stopped for speeding (84 mph/140 km per hour in a 45 mph/72 km/h zone) in his 2006 Lexus LS 430 on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California.
A breathalyzer test measured Gibson’s blood-alcohol level as "0.12%" (the state's legal limit is 0.08%), and next to him was an open container of "Cazadores Tequila," 750ml at 75% full.
Gibson was described by the arresting officer James Mee as cooperative until arrested, at which point he became belligerent and experienced mood swings.
While handcuffed in the car, Gibson made anti-Semitic remarks to Mee, who is Jewish.
Gibson reportedly asked a female sergeant at the station "What are you looking at, sugar tits?" although this detail was not in Mee’s report.
Gibson was released on bail at 9 am PDT.
TMZ.com broke the story of Gibson's arrest for DUI on July 28 at 7 pm PDT, and later that night TMZ posted photocopies of an unofficial arrest report.
The next day Gibson confessed to driving under the influence and to "despicable" behavior during his arrest, and a frenzy of media coverage followed.

Rapper Busta Rhymes Pleads Guilty to DUI, Other Charges
The rapper known as Busta Rhymes accepted a surprising plea deal in a New York court in exchange for not facing jail time.
Rhymes had previously stated that he would go to trial.
Rhymes pled guilty to DUI, driving on a suspended license, and two counts of assault.
He received three years of probation and $750 in fines, and will do community service at a private, "court-approved" location.
Bill Murray could face a drunken driving charge after cruising through downtown Stockholm in a golf cart and refusing to take a breath test, citing U.S. law.
Police officers spotted the "Caddyshack" star early August 20, 2007 in the slow-moving vehicle and noticed he smelled of alcohol when they pulled him over, said Detective-Inspector Christer Holmlund of the Stockholm police.

So here’s something new: A celebrity whose fame stemmed at least as much from good looks and sex appeal as from actual work product is nabbed for driving while blotto again, but nonetheless manages to avoid jail time.
No, not her.
George Michael, he of the stubble and the dance moves and the not all that many hit records lately, was sentenced in Brent Magistrates’ Court in London to 100 hours of community service after pleading guilty to driving while unfit (in his case, it was drugs, not booze).
Oct. 1, 2006, he was evidently found snoozing at the wheel of his Mercedes in the middle of an intersection after witnesses saw him driving slowly and erratically on the wrong side of the road.
Intoxication was immediately suspected, especially in light of the marijuana the police said they found in his possession when they woke him up (for that he apparently got off with a stern caution).
This wasn’t a new scenario: Mr. Michael had been found slumped in the driver’s seat in February 2006 as well.

How is Jack Bauer going to save the world if he can’t even drive straight??

Mickey Rourke was arrested for driving his Vespa drunk after leaving a Miami nightclub early this morning.
The actor claimed he wasn’t drinking but then failed to pass a field sobriety test. Fred Montana, a photographer for the Palm Beach Post, was hoping to catch pictures of Jennifer Lopez after her concert when he bumped into Mickey Rourke entering the club:
"They came back out two hours later and crossed Washington Avenue to go to his scooter," Montana said.
"They both got on it, and he did a U-turn to go north. He was pulled over within a block.
"The cop says to him: 'You swerved right in front of me.' And Mickey answered: 'No, no, dude, I'm all right.'"
Actually, according to the arrest report, Rourke also let out a four-letter bomb when he was stopped.
Cops say the actor had a flushed face and bloodshot and watery eyes and that his speech was slurred.
George W. Bush acknowledged Thursday that in 1976 he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol near his parents' home in Kennebunkport, Maine.
Bush, who was 30 at the time, pleaded guilty, paid a $150 fine and his driving privileges were temporarily suspended in Maine.
"I'm not proud of that. I made some mistakes.
I occasionally drank too much, and I did that night. I learned my lesson." Bush said he was not jailed after the arrest.
"I told the guy (the arresting officer) I had been drinking, what do I need to do?
He said, 'here's the fine.' I paid the fine."

Rapper Lil’ Wayne was arrested on three felony drug charges yesterday after federal agents said they found illegal drugs including cocaine on his tour bus at a Border Patrol checkpoint near Yuma, Ariz.
Drug Enforcement Administration agents arrested Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., after a Border Patrol canine search uncovered 105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine and 41 grams of Ecstasy pills on the rapper’s tour bus.
Proving that he really is a party monster, Culkin and a friend were pulled over around 4 p.m. on Friday 9/23/2004 for driving 70 in a 60 mph zone on Interstate 44 in Oklahoma City.
According to the police report, Culkin and the friend consented to a search of their rental car that turned up approximately 17 grams of marijuana, six joints, and $3,000.
Culkin was also carrying eight Xanax pills and 32 milligrams of Clonazepam in a clear plastic bag in his front pocket, none of which he had valid prescriptions for.
Culkin was handcuffed and booked at the local jail before being released on $4,000 bond.
Culkin was one of the most powerful childhood actors in the early 90’s before his family troubles overshadowed his career. His parents’ bitter split (they never married) in 1995 began a battle over Mac’s millions and subsequent custody issues ultimately put his career on hold. As a teenager, he enjoyed the nightlife and a brief marriage at 17 to fellow actor Rachel Miner. Culkin has been trying to make a comeback with roles in Party Monster and Saved and he is also working on numerous other projects. No doubt this little drug bust will just be a blip on Mac’s radar screen.
