Dauntless
Mustrum Ridcully (the Brown) is the current Archchancellor of Unseen University. Before becoming the Archchancellor he had been away from the University for almost 40 years living in the countryside in the Ramtops. He originally came from Bad Ass, where he was the one-time romantic interest of Esme Weatherwax.

Drum Billet is (or rather was) a wizard, and like all wizards he knew his end was coming. So he went in search of someone to pass his powers unto, and it led him to Gordo Smith, Bad Ass' smith, who was an eighth son, had seven sons, and whose wife was to deliver an eighth child. So he passed his staff to the newborn, thus (unknowingly) making Esk the first wizard woman (which caused problems in the slightly sexist wizarding community).

The Librarian is a faculty member, and so he must have once been a human wizard. A strong wave of magic, altering reality, transformed the Librarian into an orang-utan; at that time, his colleagues still remembered how he looked as a human. Back then, wizards were much too busy than to help him get back to his original human form (although there is no record of him asking for help, either). After things settled down, the Librarian's colleagues found that he liked being an orang-utan, and fought all efforts to transform him back to human. The Librarian found out that opposable toes come in very handy when climbing up the book-shelves and sorting books. Also, a very large and strong orang-utan has more plausible arguments when talking about dog-ears and overrun return deadlines. Although the senior wizards had looked very hard for one, there are no rules in the university constitution forbidding an orang-utan to be a member of the college council.

A wizard whose unfortunate halitosis compelled Mustrum Ridcully to send him on an indefinite research assignment looking at shellfish in a swamp near Genua. Here his nose swelled up and became bright red, and his eyes never ceased to weep due to his being allergic to the shellfish.

As Ridcully said, nobody's going to mind out there, least of all the shellfish Collabone was ostensibly sent to study.

Hail Mary Pass
Albert (full name: Alberto Malich the Wise) is Death's servant. He has been living in Death's Domain for the last two thousand years, but because time does not progress there, he has not aged. Alberto Malich was once a seriously powerful wizard and founded Unseen University in Ankh-Morpork. When he realised that Death was on his tail, and not having got to where he was without making extremely powerful enemies on the other side, he decided that he was better off as an undying servant than a dead anything. His first idea was to perform a magic spell which would grant him an endless life. His idea was to perform the Rite of AshkEnte backwards, to keep Death away. Instead the spell propelled Albert directly to Death's front door. Albert decided to stay there when he found out that his life-timer was almost empty with only a few days left (91 days, 3 hours, 5 minutes according to Mort). "Life is a habit which is hard to break."

A young wizard who was responsible for burning down the Library. Realising that any further attempt to unscrew heads would be futile, the Librarian concentrated on helping the books to escape.

This does not mean he would have forgotten or forgiven, even after the Sourcerer returned things to normal, as good as old.

Sconner and his accomplices would still have needed to renew their library cards, and the "we were only obeying orders" defence wouldn't wash on one of the very few sentient members of Unseen University who did try to fight the Sourceror...as well as this, Sconner's unfortunate use of the m-word is almost sure to have earned him the full range of the Librarian's informal sanctions for misbehaviour...

Ymper Trymon is an unusually thoughtful and organized wizard (for example, he doesn't smoke, and believes that magic should be performed with a minimum of flash and pomp), who is featured in The Light Fantastic. Trymon's auditor-like view of the world allows forces from the Dungeon Dimensions to enter his mind.

Trymon regrets his actions at the end of The Light Fantastic, but turns into a horrible creature that is killed by Rincewind and Twoflower.

Rincewind has been an important character since the Discworld series started. He is a wizard with (almost) no magical ability and whose ambition in life is simply to continue having a life. He has been on many adventures, but almost entirely by accident.

Ponder Stibbons is a wizard. He is employed at the Unseen University as the Head of Inadvisably Applied Magic, Praelector, and as the Reader in Invisible Writings. He does most of his work in collaboration with students at the University's High Energy Magic building.
Stibbons' most successful creation is Hex, a magical computer composed of glass tubes full of ants, and other assorted complex systems, such as a mouse. Hex is initially capable only of simple arithmetic; however as the series continues, and more complex additions are made to Hex, it develops the semi-sapience of a child, the ability to add to and redesign itself, and the ability to do complex spells much, much more rapidly than a team of wizards could (for example, when they were searching for Rincewind in Interesting Times, Hex did in a day what would have taken the UU Faculty several months). Several notable components of Hex are the wheel of ram skulls, the beachball that goes "parp" every fourteen minutes, the Unreal Time Clock and the F.T.B. (Fluffy Teddy Bear).

Detritus is a troll who began as a hired thug and later a "splatter" at the Mended Drum.
In Moving Pictures he was used by C.M.O.T Dibbler as hired muscle in his takeover of Century of the Fruitbat Pictures. While in Holy Wood Detritus met and fell in love with another troll called Ruby who insisted that he get a better job than hitting people for money. Detritus' relationship with Ruby has been mentioned infrequently since; in Thud! they are described as 'happily married but childless.' Over the course of that novel, Detritus takes the severely drug-dependent young troll named Brick under his wing, the slight implication being that Detritus and Ruby want children.

His name is Professor A.A. Dinwiddie, DM (7th), D.Thau., B.Occ., M.Coll., but, like most of the faculty, he is generally referred to by his title.
The Bursar is a quiet, reserved person, who took the job of University treasurer because he had an affinity for numbers.
The brashness of Ridcully's personality wore away at the Bursar, a man whose idea of excitement was a soft-boiled egg, and Dr. Dinwiddie is now almost completely insane. He is kept functional, just, by experimental dosages of dried frog pills, though the effect is sometimes erratic. The pills are actually hallucinogens, the idea being that a proper dosage will cause him to hallucinate he is sane.
