In 2006 Team CSC decided on adding another bus to their fleet and therefore needed one more driver. This brought Danny In t'Ven to the organization, as he was recommended via a contact in Belgium.

Danny had been employed as a driver for the Belgian government for five years prior to that, but it was sort of in the cards that he was going to work within the cycling world because cycling has played a major part in his life.

”I've been a bike rider since I was tiny, because my dad, Willy, had been a pro rider on the Molteni team with Eddy Merckx for three years from 1971 to 1973. I was a rider for 20 years myself – until 2003 where I became a fulltime driver,” says In t'Ven.

The biggest triumph as an active rider was in 1997, where Danny won the Belgian Road Championship. He has also won the Belgian Time Trial Championships three times at the end of the 90'ies.

”I was only a pro for two years in 1992 and 1993, but kept racing for many years after that. At the time I was with Collstrop and did the Vuelta a Espana in 1993, where I became 78th. But my timing was pretty lousy because at that time the Belgian professional teams only wanted classics specialists, and my areas were more the stage races and time trials, so I think that was the reason I mostly stayed an amateur,” explains In t'Ven, who also mentions his victory in the prologue in Milk Race in 1993 as a great moment.

The year before that Danny also won a stage in Milk Race, where the second place went to Lars Michaelsen.

Roger Theel came to Team CSC in 2006 after having worked in his field for five years.

”I wanted to work for the best cycling team in the world, so I contacted Kim Andersen and made the switch from Phonak, where I'd worked for two years. Before that I was at Coast-Bianchi for three years,” says Theel, who knew one of the managers at Coast.

Before Theel started as a mechanic in the international cycling world, he started a bike shop with a friend in his hometown of Magdeburg in former East Germany. Theel is a trained car mechanic, but he started fixing motorcycles and later on bikes at a car shop, he worked at.

”I've done some racing myself. I'm the same age as Jan Ullrich, so I've raced against him a couple of times, but I quit when I turned 16-årig and discovered other things in life, which were more important to me. I've done a few races as an amateur since then, when I've had the time,” says Theel, who stopped his cycling career at the same time as the Berlin wall fell. He explains that when Ullrich became a national champion for the first time as an amateur, Theel was 60th in the German championships.

”There was so much going on then. It was turbulent times politically and it was very important to find something proper to do, so I started doing a course in mechanics,” explains Theel, who has been happy with his choice and his career as a whole.

Joost De Maeseneer and his colleague Piet De Moor are actually the two people, who have been with the team for the longest period of time. Jesper Skibby recruited them already during the very first season, when the team was called Team Home Jack&Jones.

”We weren't there from the actual beginning, but it was about a month into the season, when we came onboard. It was in 1998, when Jesper [Skibby] and Henrik Schlüter persuaded us to join. Before that we'd worked at TVM with Jesper,” explains De Maeseneer.

”I've tried almost everything as a doctor in the cycling world. I've worked with Eddy Merckx, when I was with the Belgian Cycling Federation for many years – and actually I still am as part of a sports committee, where my role is advisor without participating in any races,” continues De Maeseneer.

Joost was born in Belgium in 1955 and finished his education as a medical doctor in 1981. After that he did a course as a sports doctor in 1983. Since then his professional life has been all about cycling, cycling and more cycling beginning with the Panasonic Team in 1984.

”Piet and I had worked from home for many years for the Belgian Cycling Federation, Panasonic and TVM, but in 2000, when Bjarne Riis took over the team with Riis Cycling, we were asked to decide if we'd like to join the team on a more steady basis, which we were happy to do. So now we are responsible for all the sports physiology on the team along with Piet Daneels. All training programs and treatment go through us,” says De Maeseneer and continues:

”All three of us in the medical department are Belgians and we live practically next door to each other. I think this is a huge advantage as we communicate all the time. It also means, that we all take care of all the riders on the team, because we keep each other up to date continuously. When some of the riders are treated for something by either Kalle [Flebbe] or Ole
or maybe one of our soigneurs, it's of course very important that we know about it,”
