Ulric Blooddrinker, once star Blitzer in his previous life, now leads the Swartzhafen Nightmares on the field of Blood Bowl. After his career was cut short after a career-ending injury by an arrow shot from the crowd, and then having his body shattered and beat into hunks of meat and bone, even as undead Ulric still feels the rage which drove him while he was living. Adorned in the finest plate armour the Old World has to offer he is truly a formidable figure.

Freed from mortals' restrictions like sleep, thirst or hunger, Ulric Blooddrinker can spend all his spare time in training and scouring the different playbooks and strategies of old to perfect his team's play on the pitch.

*****

Having returned to the pitch for the fourth time, Ulric upon being brought back was enraged. Just like in his glory days as a star blitzer, he met a brutal end against a Minotaur, his most despised and hated creature in the Old World. Upon being returned by the loyal necromancer, Ulric demanded to know the whereabouts of his slayer. He was relieved however, to hear that the beast was slain. To his surprise it was by none other than Gustaf Marrowblade, the infamous fouler. Once more, Ulric is now ready to face the Open Leagues. The only question is how long it will take him to be brought back for a fifth time! Ulric himself states it shall never happen again. Of course he said this all the other times but we decided not to question his statement.

The fact that Ulric was badly hurt in his first match back on the pitch leaves certain critics in doubt however.

Conrad was not a Blood Bowl player in his previous life. Instead he was a brutal and vindictive leader who lead a small band of bandits across the Old World in order to pillage and loot any unfortunate villages they could find. If the opportunity arose they would also hire themselves out for mercenaries to assist anyone who was willing to pay a high enough price.

He was called by many names, amongst them "The Iron Knight", The Butcher, or as his present name shows, the Merciless. How he met his death he cannot remember. Conrad however has found a new calling in his life. His old love of pillaging had left his old body many years ago along with his previous life. But now...with immortality, he could do anything.

Encouraged to join Ulric Blooddrinker, Conrad went with him and the rest of the Undead to form the Swartzhafen Nightmares. Now he can be seen spending countless hours training to perfect his running, blocking and the art of murder for his time on the field of Blood Bowl. Alongside Ulric he is a fearsome sight, a broad Skeleton fitted in some of the finest armour of antiquity. He and Conrad are always seen trying to break open gaps in the enemy line and it is a rare thing to see Conrad to go down to the enemy. Despite the vast riches he had found in life during his time as a mercenary and bandit, he always yearned for something more. Now in death, Conrad has finally found his place in the world, or as he calls it, his passion: Blood Bowl!

Leader
A crude and evil creature, Gutrench was taken like so many of his kind from the Sylvanian Graveyards. In contrast to his predecessor Rotripper however, Gutrench seems to have the canny ability to stay out of trouble when things are looking hot. Also unlike his predecessor, Gutrench has also developed a rather unusual knack towards directing and formulating on-pitch plans of his team. While to the untrained ear this may come across as gnashing, babbling and screeching, Gutrench has actually proven to be an astute leader for his team. Though as like all Ghouls, it is to be seen if this is to last.

Despite rapidly progressing through the ranks of his team and gaining a reputation for maiming and murdering anyone unlucky enough to get into his grasp, Akhenaten had the misfortune of crossing paths with a ferocious Chaos team. During the match, to his horror, his leg was cleanly torn from beneath him and he was forced to retire from the team.

Fortunately like all Undead, retirement simply means being stored away for a little while until your wounds can be repaired, unless of course that player wishes to enter their eternal slumber. Akhenaten however, now filled with the adrenaline and thrill of the field, opted for the former and has returned with a new body to once more go up the ranks.

******

With his continued streak of misfortune, Akhenaten the Third has once more received another vicious injury. After yet another ferocious match, this time vs a team of Chaos Dwarfs, Akhenaten's leg was torn out of place and despite the best efforts of the Igor, could not repair himself! Akhenaten is now considering that perhaps he is not cut out for the blood bowl pitch. His growing fan base however strongly beg to differ.

Ramtu the Immortal, originally a great king in the old lands of Khemri, always had a thing for violent sports. So it was quite fortunate that his sarcophagus had found its way to Sylvania and to have been amongst those graves which had been struck by the almighty magic projectile which created the Swartzhafen Nightmares.

In his new life, Ramtu the Immortal, now free of petty concerns like politics and ruling a kingdom, has found a new home both in the Nightmares and the field of Blood Bowl. His massive figure towers above the field and his great strength which he had in life has now been bolstered three fold in death. And he is only more than glad to show the opposition players just what effect it can have on them!

Gustaf Marrowblade was once a rather conniving individual and universally hated by those around him. This was due to his obsession with kicking anyone who he saw as an easy target, preferably if they were on the ground. Gustaf could be frequently seen harassing those in the peasant districts and poorer areas of his city. He did, however meet his faith when he accidentally crossed what he thought was another simple peasant, but was in fact a Dark Elf assassin.

Having been resurrected during the catastrophic bombardment of Magical energy which erupted across the Old World, Gustaf has joined the Nightmares as little more than a pile of bones. Despite retaining little, if any, of his original personality, Gustaf's adoration for kicking things or landing a solid boot to those on the ground has remained with him. Unfortunately his poor habit of being particularly loud and indiscreet has made it difficult for him to get away with his habit even on the pitch, as referees find it difficult not to notice a screaming, waving skeleton loudly stomping on a downed player.

***Career Highlights

During a particularly violent match against a Chaos Dwarf team called Great Taurus, Gustaf Marrowblade faced down the furious charge of a minotaur who was bearing straight for him. With a sickening crunch both players went down. It seems Gustaf's skull is as thick as it was when he was living as not only was he left unscathed, but the Minotaur's skull had been cracked open, leaving his brains splattered across the pitch. Despite Gustaf being a generally quiet player outside of his deafening screams he lets out when beating a player to death, this is certainly the greatest achievement he or any individual has achieved on the team.

Awusta was the first member added to the team post their entrance to the Open Leagues. Once a mighty Chaos Dwarf from Zhar Naggrund, Awusta believed like so many others of his kind, he would be immune to the pains of death on the field of Blood Bowl and would carve himself a formidable reputation. Unfortunately for him it was not to be.

In the first ever match of the Nightmares, Awusta was splattered into the ground by Ramtu the Immortal and from the messy remains rose a zombie. Interviewers have attempted to ask his opinion on this predicament but all he has to say about the matter is low grunts and moans.

Another Chaos Dwarf added to the team roster. While Ulric has yet to personally claim one of the dwarfs lives for himself, his team on the other hand is racking up quite the kill count. Yorick Vilerock being amongst those who fell to the Nightmares and to be brought into their ranks.

While Gustaf Marrowblade is considered the team's primary fouler, Rigerous Mort seems to be developing this rather crude habit as well. There is very little known about Rigerous Mort, in fact all records show that such a person has never existed, at least in the Blood Bowl world. Similarly as well Rigerous Mort does very little like most Skeletons and simply goes where he is ordered. But it seems that something inside that empty shell of a skeleton has emerged as now Rigerous Mort can be regularly seen delivering some violent boots to those opposition players near him lying on the ground.

Gustaf Marrowblade had nothing to say about this except to let out a deafening scream in our reporters face, whom both promptly fainted and left a rather unpleasant package in their pants, confirmed of course by the assistant Goblin.

Once a Hobgoblin of the Chaos Dwarf team "Incoming Nightmare", Rushnak had the great misfortune in tripping and splitting his skull open. To the shock and delight of Nightmare fans, he was quickly brought back as a zombified version of himself.

Ghouls are fragile creatures, especially when pressure is applied. Very Sick Sally, belonging to a nefarious Necromantic team known as the ": Wundaerdal Whispers", Gustaf Marrowblade managed to foul the fiend to death and he was swiftly added to the Swartzhafen Roster.
