Mighty Blow
Toruil Dragonchaser didn't have the easiest road to national Blood Bowl play. For the last three years, he's been the star of the Induil's Smithy Rovers, a team in the North Chrace Regional League. When the Lions called him up, he jumped at the chance to face elite opponents from around Ulthuan.

A bit more of a known quantity than his fellow blitzer Rollo Brightspark, Toruil provides the team with some real veteran leadership and hard-hitting capacity. He's as close to a smash-mouth Blood Bowl player as an elf can really be, and his hard physical style has earned him some fans.

Rollo Brightspark is a high-born young elf who earned renown as a collegiate Blood Bowl player. Upon graduation, Rollo was expected to join the White Lions, but he shocked everyone by declaring his intention to play professional Blood Bowl. He's undoubtedly the marquee player of the Lions' inaugural roster, and is expected to become a star if he survives long enough.

Rollo threw the first block in Lions history, and later in the same game, scored the team's first casualty. But he's still a project, capable of some solid hits but not able to string an entire strong game together yet. Yet.

Beradion Arrowsflight's past is mysterious even to his teammates. Upon signing with the team, he claimed he served in the Lothern Sea Guard for five years, but nothing else about his life or career before Blood Bowl. He seems to have some skills on the pitch, though... it's not as though the Lions were in the position to turn any talented player down.

In the opening seasons of his career, Beradion has emerged as a real star, able to score, pass and block with equal effectiveness. He's not the fastest player on the pitch, but has a real knack for getting where he needs to be in time to do what he needs to do.

Delenora Glorymane is the sister of Verula Glorymane, the Lions' star catcher. After seeing the success Verula had as a Blood Bowl rookie, management decided that the Glorymane family was something to invest in. Delenora is not quite as fast as Verula, and she has a mean streak that's a little weird for a catcher -- she loves to hit, even though it's not her role on the team. A player this athletic and fearless is likely to be a star, or else to get severely injured. One of the two.

In a surprising development, Delenora has emerged as the team's leading Glorymane... Verula has been exciting when on the pitch, but her chronic inability to stay there has kept her grounded. Not so Delenora, who's whipped off a series of impressive TDs and managed to stay healthy too.

A highly-touted rookie QB and college teammate of Rollo Brightspark, Elariel went 4-for-4 in passing his first game. Not a physical specimen, he relies on his quick release and excellent accuracy to make all the throws.

Gelieth Stormfighter was the top star of the Chrace White Tigers. Playing under the alias Tethlis, after the legendary High Elf king who drove the Dark Elves from Ulthuan, he gained many fans for his flashy play, but his arrogance turned just as many off. (Who calls himself Tethlis, really?)

His life changed when the hippogriff attacked and devoured his teammates. Gelieth's leg was broken in the attack, and when he had healed, he thanked the gods for sparing him. He vowed to rebuild his career under his own name, and to quit the showboating of his past. Some fans are skeptical -- Gelieth now walks with a noticeable limp, and he just doesn't seem as good as he once was. But the Lions, desperate for anything resembling a star, have signed him on.

He's acquitted himself admirably too. His days of stardom are clearly over, but Gelieth has taken to the life of a lineman with an impressive lack of ego. Blocking and taking blocks, he doesn't get much of the glory, but he does his part.

Dulariath Sealion played in the second tier of Ulthuan football until two years ago, when his coastal village was wiped out by a Dark Elf attack. One of the few survivors of the raid, Dulariath took some time off from the sport, but is now returning to the pitch in an attempt to re-start his career. An effective blocker, he was also known for his passing skills.

Dulariath scored the first touchdown in Lions history, but has not particularly distinguished himself since then. He's still a solid hand, but hardly more than that, as it appears the sport has passed him by a bit.

Ocharion Bloodphoenix is not the best player on the Lions, but he is probably the most frightening. Hailing from a long line of Shadow Warriors, Ocharion patrolled the borders of Chrace for a few years himself, tracking down and killing at least five Dark Elf spies. Like many sons of Nagarythe, though, Ocharion grew restless, and now patrols the pitches of Ulthuan as a Blood Bowl player. Needless to say, he knows a hundred methods for incapacitating a foe, and he's not nearly as gentlemanly as some of his teammates about it.

Even in Ulthuan, a player fitting this description is likely to become a star. Honestly, Ocharion isn't the blood-crazed monster the sportswriters have painted him as, but his convincingly wild-eyed look means he has a REPUTATION for violence. That's usually enough to convince opponents to steer clear, and it's been enough for Ocharion to gather a bunch of Player of the Game trophies.

Saluen Moongazer was a reserve player for the Chrace White Tigers. The young elf escaped injury during the hippogriff attack that claimed her teammates' lives by darting under a nearby rock and playing dead. She had been on the team for only a month when the attack happened, and had yet to play a game, but those are still enough credentials to earn a spot on the team.

Indeed, Saluen's experience (such as it is) served her well, as she became the first Lions player to complete a pass in the opening minutes of the team's first game. Later, she rushed to the goal line to score a touchdown as the clock ticked down, securng the team a draw in their first game. Since that match, she's scarcely been more than average, but she also hasn't been less than average either. And for a player this young, that's something to build on...

He may be older than most Ulthuan League rookies, but Catharien Longstride is proving to be a diamond in the rough so far. Longstride, who began his Blood Bowl career several years ago, has gone through pre-season training with several teams, including the now-defunct Chrace White Tigers and the Cothique Sea Guards, but never quite made the final cut for the actual roster. But his mixture of practice squad and semi-pro experience has made him into a very solid, versatile player.

His performance in his Ulthuan League debut, in which he scored a touchdown, a completion and an interception, serves as evidence of his wide-ranging talents. With his further successes in Season 2, it's becoming clear that the teams who didn't keep Longstride made a big mistake.
