Few of the lords of Gallhain had chosen for themselves the complex and expensive ceremony of embalming for after their departure, but Lord Edwin Garthrow was one of them. Unknown by himself and the executing priests, he had thereby created a strong bond between his soul and his well-preserved worldly remains, that was easy to be exploited by a capable necromancer - or a vampire. When Ebon Xanic explored his new residence, he was pleasantly surprised to fiend a couple of those powerful undead warriors ready to be raised.

Lord Garthrow's death has been dated back to about 320 years and he is thereby one of the oldest team members (measured by the time of his at least partly presence on this plane of existence). Little is known about his past involvement in Blood Bowl, but Ebon Xanic and U'bognthaotur both agreed it would be helpful to have one or two of his kind in the Graveshade team.

Sir Brun Hafford was in charge of the Gallhain guard about 180 years ago for over three decades. Living in peaceful times, he developed dedicated interest and knowledge in Gallhain's history and its inhabitants' genealogies. When he died in peace and of old age, his remains, including his personal armor and weapons, were embalmed, as it had been his wish. Being an admirer of all sorts of preserving measures, he thereby followed the example of past Gallhain rulers like Lord Edwin Garthrow.

He was not happy being summoned from the grave, but fulfills his assignments with indifferent calmness, while monotonously reciting the lines of Gallhain's ancestors.

Thick Skull (20k)

Sir Cenwig Green, short-period commander of the Gallhain Guard, died about 130 years ago in an incident caused by his own misjudgment: The so-called "Bloodiest Bowl", when the guard took ruthless action against "Olandir's Wayfaring Men", a visiting Blood Bowl team that the freshly inaugurated commander mistakenly suspected to be preparing an assassination attempt. The harmless players tried to fight back but did not stand much of a chance. Meanwhile, the second visiting team (back then, Gallhain did not have a team on its own but hosted tournaments for entertainment) used the distraction to invade the mansion and kill the lordly family in front of the patriarch. Sir Cenwig arrived just in time to save the injured and unconscious lord, but in his grief commanded his guard to slaughter the remaining members of both Blood Bowl teams.
When he died two days later from a badly infected combat wound, his soul was not able to leave the place of the wholesale murder. He was condemned to haunt the Gallhain Blood Bowl pitch, that was immediately abandoned after the incident, along with any kind of commitment to the sport itself. Over the decades, a grove covered the site that was still shun by the residents of Gallhain.

Ebon Xanic had no knowledge of Gallhain's past nor was he much interested in acquiring any. He simply freed the undead Cenwig and bound him to himself, later transferring the link to U'bognthaotur. Today Sir Cenwig Green is convinced he can atone for his crime by putting himself into the position his unlucky victims were once in: being a Blood Bowl player traveling the realm for glory.

~~~
Remaining true to his new mission, Cenwig focused on becoming a good Blood Bowl player: He scored twice during the team's first two matches and quickly learned how to be more of a support for his teammates.
Notes:
  • member of a foreign Blood Bowl team of old
  • heavily injured during a match at Gallhain; his leg had to be amputated
  • left behind by the team, stayed at the estate and became torturer (no upright resident of Gallhain wanted that job)
  • he abused his position to inflict even more pain than necessary, often holding back the information he had gotten only to prolong the process
  • he did not fiend peace in death and thenceforward haunted prison and torture chamber until they were bricked up (and new once were installed elsewhere)
Lio worked as a footboy of Gallhain when Blood Bowl was at the peak of its popularity in the old days. He excelled in playing the game with other servants and was finally encouraged to join one of the many roaming teams. It did take him a while to adjust to the professional level, but of such was his potential, that he was soon considered an emerging star. Known as "Lio of Gallhain" he filled his family and former masters with pride.
The tragic end of his short but promising career came about 150 years ago, when he went home for another visit: He fell sick while being on the road and barely reached Gallhain, only to die two days later within the arms of his beloved ones.
Oden and Ishi Yiuka are twin siblings playing for "Olandir's Wayfaring Men", who were killed by the Gallhain Guard on behalf of its Commander Cenwig Green roughly 130 years ago. They were known for their remarkable skills as ball artists and jugglers, performing entertaining feats during half time and outside games. They have been described as secluded, earnest young humans who worked hard to excel on the pitch.
Abacus Kofflon was a blocker on "Olandir's Wayfaring Men", the team that get slaughtered in Gallhain on the "Bloodiest Bowl", about 130 years ago. He was roaming the realm as "The Giant" - huge of statue and short of temper.
When the Gallhain Guard came to put his team under arrest, he started a brawl. After he smashed one guard's face with a training dumbbell, swords were drawn and and real violence erupted. Abacus himself got run through by another guard, who was more than willing to revenge his messmate.
Notes:
  • member of the innocent team
  • swift, nimble runner
  • stayed completely passive when the guard attacked and surrendered immediately; he was only executed due to the commander's order
  • it's mentioned that he did not say a word and stood bolt upright in the process, eyes turned to the sky and the skin wet of tears - "living and soon after dead proof for the blatant injustice of this crime"
