It’s a translation of his name, Vlad Tepes, which inspired the idea of Count Dracula in Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel “Dracula.” Vlad was known for his many methods of torturing and killing his enemies. He is said to have impaled at least 80,000 victims on long stakes. Death was slow, and the bodies of victims were left to rot for months.

The Countess of Shroudshire (nee Dracula) was a character played by Yvonne De Carlo in the CBS sitcom “The Munsters.” The matriarch of the Munster household, Lily was a vampire.
