During his rite of passage, in which each young clan member is left, naked, to fend for himself in the northern wastes for a month, Offa survived by ambushing stray beastmen, sleeping inside their hollowed carcasses, and eating their barbequed meat along with a strange variety of blue mushroom he discovered growing under the snow. He returned to his village completely absent of sanity and wearing a necklace of gor-horns strung together on blood-matted sinew. When NPU heard of his exploits they immediately granted Offa a scholarship to join the university's Blood Bowl team.

At 19, Lief tracked a wounded bestigor 60 miles across the snowy wastes before slaying the fiend and dragging its head back to the village of Wercheg. This turned out a be the kind of trophy and proof of stamina which impresses the NPU's youth blood-bowl committee and Leif was offered a highly sought after place on the team as catcher.

The son of a nomadic Khan beyond the Mountains of Mourn - Subadai was sent to Norsca by his father to 'toughen him up' - even though the boy had apparently been leading raids on horseback since he was 11 years old. His accuracy with a compound bow quickly translated to accuracy with a spiked boar-skin (ball) and Subadai was made thrower for the NPU's college blood-bowl team.
