Meekins was brought in to replace Skip Broke following his unfortunate pool accident. As a true last minute addition to the team, Mike is even less prepared than most of the Plumbbobs for the rigors of professional blood bowl.

For Joe, the only reason he stuck around with the Plumbbobs after the revelation they had accidentally joined the NWFL was the paycheck. Joe figures if he can just survive two or three seasons, he'll be set for life, and can retire to a life of excess, debauchery, and even more ugly hats that only he thinks looks good.
