Before becoming a Power Ranger, Jason was already a talented martial artist who enjoyed teaching others as well. The idea of becoming a hero appealed to Jason's longing for adventure, and while the other rangers were reluctant about their new powers, Jason was ready for a world of excitement.

Jason became the Red Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, and controlled the Tyrannosaurus Power Coin and the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord.

Billy was your stereotypical nerd before he became a power ranger. He was one of the five "teenagers with attitude" selected by Zordon to become a Power Ranger. Billy became the Blue Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, and was given both the Triceratops Power Coin and the Triceratops Dinozord.

Billy not only created the rangers communicators, but also the interface that allowed the devices a remote access to the Command Center's teleportation unit.

Zack Taylor was a student who attended Angel Grove High School. He enjoys dancing at every chance he gets, and even developed his own fighting style, Hip Hop Kido, which he used to fight evil. As a close friend to both Jason and Tommy, all three liked to work out together and practice their martial arts.

Although initially dismissive of being chosen, Zack soon discovered that he was right for the job. He became the Black Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, and controlled the Mastodon Power Coin and the Mastodon Dinozord.

While he was a freshman in high school, Tommy and his family moved to Angel Grove. He entered a martial arts tournament and fought Jason to a tie by 4-4, despite Jason being labeled "Angel Grove's finest martial artist".

Tommy's career as a Power Ranger did not start like most, as he was chosen by Rita Repulsa to become her evil Green Ranger. He was tasked with destroying the original team of Power Rangers and had nearly succeeded, although he was ultimately defeated and was released from Rita's control by the Red Ranger, Jason. Having turned good, Tommy helped the Rangers in defeating the forces of darkness and was made an official member of the team.

While swimming at the lake one afternoon, a beam of light surrounded Tommy and he was teleported to the Command Center. Zordon and Alpha revealed their plans to him of creating a new Ranger, and because this Ranger would be created from the White Light of Good, it would be impossible for the darkness to control him. Tommy was the perfect candidate to take on the powers for his bravery and determination from his old Ranger days. When the other Rangers were teleported to the Command Center, Tommy revealed himself to be the new White Mighty Morphin Power Ranger. He controls the White Tigerzord with the help of his enchanted talking sabre, Saba.

Kimberly was a typical valley girl, but with a heightened awareness for her friends. When Zordon teleported her and her friends to the command center, she received the Pterodactyl Power Coin and the Pterodactyl Dinozord, thus becoming the Pink Mighty Morphin Power Ranger.

She used a blend of gymnastic maneuvers followed by punches, elbows, and kicks. She often used the environment around her as a springboard for her attacks, all while firing off sarcastic/witty remarks.

Trini Kwan was working out at Ernie's Juice Bar & Gym along with her friends. Suddenly the ground began to shake and Trini and her friends were transported to the Command Center. There awaited quite the sight, a blue head floating inside an energy tube and a young, fully-sentient and multi-functional automaton with a head in the shape of a flying saucer. And even more incredibly, this being called Zordon, had selected them to become Power Rangers.

The idea of protecting people from the evil witch Rita Repulsa appealed to the gentle and kind nature of Trini. Without hesitation, Trini activated her power coin and became the first Yellow Mighty Morphin Power Ranger and controlled the Saber-tooth Tiger Power Coin and the Saber-tooth Tiger Dinozord.
