I think there is a bit of hyperbole going on here.

How many stars actually play?

If there are stars, there is usually only one, maybe two.

On TT I would just have a coin per star. Heads means I haven't used the ability tails means I have.

I think it is exactly that what makes a star. Othervise it is just a bunch of skills stacked on a player but with a background. Every team out there has atleast 11 of them. But, more stars pls :)

@SanKuKai, Star Players will come with new unique special skills (f.i. Black Gobbo enables 2 fouls per turn).

I agree. The Star Player rules should be available every turn they're on the pitch. Much simpler
