LBR 6.0

WOW!
I really think this rule set improves Bloodbowl.

It looks to reward better play and team skill choices.
The degenerate stuff that detracted from good game play (like PO/RSC) is gone. Fouling has enough risk associated to it to stop it ever being like it was in 3rd ed.
Aging is gone - that was one of the worst rule ideas I think ever existsed.
The counter to all this less destruction on field is helped by a handicap system that seems to work!
Getting a reduced income for higher team values seems like a better way of limiting upper team value than aging - I'd have to see how a league with as many games as FUMBBL plays out tho.

The Kick-Off table is nowhere near as brutal as it once was with FF nerfed. The really stuipd results like Pitch Invasion have been made workable.

New skills like Wrestle are amazing and fix aspects of the game at higher TR. Grab and Fend are both interesting.
Getting rid of Traits is an excellent idea - it was a crap idea to start. Much better to balance the skills than to make them impossible to get for some players, and not worth the doubles roll to others. I think Jump-Up was one skill like this. Elves would rather get Guard on doubles and Jump-Up was overlooked.

I'm sad to see is that FF has such a reduced value. It means that building a starting roster for the long haul is no longer as much of a compromise as it once was. Chaos can now start with all their Chaos Warriors and get 3 RR's - quite a change from the 11 Beastmen 4 RR roster I use to always start. I'd likely still start with 4RR and only 2 CW, but that's me.
Dwarfs are a no-brainer to start with all their positionals.

I'm sad to see Foul Appearance nerfed (Divided into two skills). That was my favourite skill for Chaos. Mutations being available on normal rolls really opens up more viable options however. Skill like Prehensile tail that weren't really worth the doubles roll are now quite attractive. That fact that you don't need doubles means things like Extra Arms might even see use.

This has renewed my interest in Blood Bowl again. Unfortunately, I can see I'll be playing the Cyanide version over FUMBBL until FUMBBL moves to the new rules. LBR4.0 is crap, Blood Bowl had been going backwards for a while.

The Rankings and Ratings
--------------------------------------------------------------

In the first week of FUMBBL, I was No 1. on Coach Ranking at times, but as others played more games I fell behind.
I got No 1. Coach Ranking back on 23/02/2003

Long before the 1st rankings reset.

Achieved the No 1 spot following my
91st FUMBBL game

Gained rating more quickly & efficiently than anyone else - as can been seen by the number of games played in the screenshot.

If I played more often and started on day 1 I'd have held Rank 1 from the beginning :)

I then went on to pass 200 Coach Ranking faster than anyone else was, or has ever been able to again.

Coached the outright best Chaos team - Khaos KrusherZ, who were on top of the Chaos rankings by 7pts from the 2nd highest rated team.

Coached the outright best Dwarf teams too. The Cranberries holding the Top spot until I retired them for a Cranberries rebuild who then remained the top Dwarf team.

Following the 1st of the coach ranking resets, and the change to the (back then) totally messed up and useless system based on team str, I retired all my teams - my teams meant nothing to me if they weren't all the highest by ranking.

That proved to be the error that lead to be getting sick of FUMBBL and taking about 3 years off FUMBBL.

Massively beaten up Elf teams were way undervalued and anyone winning with such a team got heaps of free ranking. Beat up Elf teams much like my own Dragon Princes whom, as I said, I retired without abusing the system.

Many coaches benefited from this, but Mirascael was the one that managed to stay at the top spot of this new ladder for a while. I think Malthor eventually passed him and set a new record high for Coach Rating before another more recent reset of the Rankings.
Amusingly enough, if you read Malthors profile, he reaches a point of getting sick of the ranking system after having to play and hold standing 1 - it's not easy being @ the top.

The beginning of FUMBBL
--------------------------------------------------------------

I started on FUMBBL 04/10/02, playing High Elves "Dragon Princes" against Thrashers "Red Cross" (Undead). The team suffered a 0-4 loss and a Death first out.
That first Elf team would continue to roll crap dice until my first (and some what infamous) match with Wuhan.

The Dragon Princes playing in their 10th Game against what was then Wu's 4th or 5th iteration of a Dark Elf team, (he had a history of getting his elven teams killed off and retiring them to start over).

Wuhan started with a foul in T1. I was supprised - fouling under LRB 2.0 rules showed lack of understanding.

I questioned his logic on fouling, and he just told me "Thats how to play Blood Bowl".

Apparently I now had something to prove, the final result:
3-1 to the Dragon Princes. No Cas against. Cas for included 1 MNG, and 5 Deaths, his Apoth failing.

Me and Wuhan have been the best of friends since :)

Chaos Teams
--------------------------------------------------------------

23/10/02 The Khaos KrusherZ of the old FUMBBL started their Quest.
There had only really been one other Khaos team in FUMBBL's history then, lead by the Player "Farmer Bob".
A Chaos Warrior with RSC/PilingOn/Block/Tackle (taken in that order).
I decided I needed to do Chaos properly and show how broken they really were.

KKZ earned a reputation, and in the end noone would play them.
They Retired a few teams without meaning too.

One of the funniest games was against Nate's Caringorm Razors.

T1 when recieving I Niggled a LineOrc in the LOS, which he Apothed,
On the Blitz action, I killed an Orc Blitzer.
Nate Conceded.

I had to laugh at that.
Nate was 4th on coach rankings at that time (I was still moving up).
Who the hell ever concedes?!? And worse, concedes in T1 before taking any actions.

The DivX league later opened.
It was created for testing the new races starting to be released.
The early team to top the ladder their was Gary/Zy-Nox's Necromantic.
I created an Old World team, who soon passed Gary's Necro's for rating, and held the top spot until the reset and move to the new FUMBBL.

Dwarf Teams
--------------------------------------------------------------

FUMBBL CUP semi-final that year would see my "Dragon Princes" vs Garys "Stoned Raiders" (a properly built Dwarf team).

I lost 2-1.
Gary scoring in T8 of the 2nd for the win, after I rolled dbl 1's to pick up in my end zone in T7 of the 2nd half.

I decided that FUMBBL needed another real Dwarf team.
There were many Dwarf rosters, but people just didnt skill them correctly, they never took enough Guard.

U2 would make their debut on the 28/11/02 and go totally undefeated in their 17 game history before FUMBBL as it was then would come to an end.

Beating any challenger, and every other Dwarf coach they played.
They never got to play Gary's "Stoned Raiders" since simply could not get any more opponents to play so that I could get a TR that was remotely close.

Even Garys Undead "Necrophiliacs" would refuse the Challenge of KKZ.
These were the 2 highest teams by Team Rating back then - my Chaos had killed off all their other possible opponents and simply became too good.

Note: For those that aren't aware... Gary is cool :)

The end of the 'old' FUMBBL
--------------------------------------------------------------

U2 would have the 2nd highest team ranking by a good margin, but couldnt catch Christers "Light of Lustria" (Lizards) before the move to the new FUMBBL.

"Light of Lustria" would get teams like Dravens "Woodland Monks" (Wood Elves) conceding to him in FUMBBL CUP match, when Draven's Wood Elves were 43TR higher, and had a 1 Turner on the roster.

Those kinda results gave Christer so much rating it was just hard to catch him back then.

The day FUMBBL as it was then went down for this new automated version, I got was exactly 3rd= with Gary in the Rankings.

For the want to play just 1 more game :P

Colin was 2nd. Colin has to be the slowest BB player in the history of the world, but he does play well.
Christer still lead back then.

Beginning of the new FUMBBL
--------------------------------------------------------------

Come the new FUMBBL I was 3 days late in getting my first games in (77th coach to register).

This would prove only a small problem, within 2 days I had the Orignal Cranberries as the highest ranked team, and I'd taken the lead in the coach race.

Khaos KrusherZ (KKZ) started out again.

Quickly became the top Chaos team

Always the top Chaos team by 7pts or more.

And rarely able to find a game.

My greatestest FUMBBL matches came shortly before my 3 year break. Up against Veron's "Walmart Looters", the Result was a win, but it was a very hard fought affair going into Overtime.

Then, vs Moxy's "Soft Fuzy Dwarves". The result was a win after Moxy proceded to reduce me to 4 players - my attempted lesson at showing the merits of playing the ball rather than hitting and fouling.

Going back in time, my Orignal Cranberries getting nailed I made a new Dwarf Team Sash!.

They got beaten up as if they had AV6. So I had to make new Dwarfs again

Queen reached the top of the Dwarf teams rankings, but existed before the rule allowing a '10' on the skill roll to be taken as a normal skill.

So I had to rebuild again. Cranberries rebuild was the result.

I'd become less interesteded in my Dragon Princes now, I found it more fun to show how Bashy teams were played with winning in mind, not just pointless fouling.

The Dragon Princes had a fairly decent roster at one point, but then suffered from the problems of deaths, 6 in 3 games.

They kept winning, but never got back to player numbers to be able to start taking on the really high teams again for ranking.

Himself and the fun times
--------------------------------------------------------------

I've managed to piss a lot of people off in my time at FUMBBL though arrogance, or just telling them they are wrong reguarding skill choices and rulings.

A momorable example about a ruling issue was following a game that I lost in T8 of the 2nd half following a client error.

The client wasn't coded to allow a chainpush back down the sideline.
(Yes, the rule was since been changed in LBR 3.0)
I needed to be able to push my player the extra square to score.
Ofcourse, since the client screwed me over, it meant my players were all out of position to defend my ball carrier - I'd played for a TD that I would otherwise have scored.

The result was a loss since my opponent managed a 1 Die Pow Blitz on the ball carrier (his 3rd of the game), Pick up, Long Bomb, Catch in a TZ, Dodge, Handoff in TZ, Dodge, Score

I blamed my loss on the client problem, yet people told me I had it wrong... in fact, the whole FUMBBL channel said I was wrong.

After explaining where to read it in the rules failed to convince anyone that I was right I had to resort to official means.

I e-mailed Chet (Rules Guru) to clear things up.
He confirmed I was correct about the rules... why anyone doubted me, I have no idea.
However, the loss would still stand.

The friends on FUMBBL

I still maintain that you dont EVER have to foul to win a game. In fact, quite the opposite under the LBR rules.

Some people still ask me for advice on how to play, I'll always help.

Gary & Grumbledook both asked me for advice and ideas on teams to take to the 2003 Blood Bowl.
Grumble came 4th with a roster I'd provided much advice on.
Gratz Grumble :)

Thoughts of FUMBBL mid 2003
--------------------------------------------------------------

Trying to restart all my teams has been hard following retiring them all.

The mentality of FUMBBL is corrupt with "Wuhan" style players.

Noone will ever be able to play Wu's style like he can and 'actually' win with it.

However, they destroy your team even when you do win.
I suffered multiple player losses in the first game with a many of my restarted teams, so I've lost some interest.

Settlers of Catan came to exist as a Net Playable game.
I pretty much moved to that for mid 2003 - late 2004.
I totally dominated the ladder there for the first year when I was actually really active.

We'll see what happens in life... but I dont think FUMBBL will be the same for me now.
