Played Blood Bowl since the days of the old 2nd edition astrogranite, but never really all that much of it (played only a dozen or so 3rd edition games back in the day, pre-fumbbl). As my stats will reveal, I'm not a great or an experienced player, and definitely still in the stage of (slowly) learning.
Games and having fun
I always play to win (or come as close as possible).
I play to win, because having fun is my main priority.
Let me explain that.
This game, like pretty much all games, is the most fun when all those involved are doing their utmost best (and preferably, are reasonably evenly matched).
So, when I say I "play to win", I don't mean racking up the win statistics or suchlike pointless ego-masturbation; I mean playing to win, with the focus on playing.
Styles of play
This also means that I enjoy the individual matches as the main attraction, with team advancement as a mere side-dish. A tasty one, yes, but still a side-dish.
To me, this game is at its best when one finesse team (or a versatile one) faces another, passable between two sluggers, and at its worst when the game is decided by how lucky a fragile team facing a bashy one is with their injury rolls in terms of number of players left on the pitch in the second half. You are welcome to disagree with this, and the game certainly wouldn't be half as awesome without the wide variety it offers!
When possible, I strongly prefer not to play handicapped games. The game is too random already without adding that into the mix.
Those oh-so-controversial topics
Fouling is a tactical tool. When it is your best available option, you should use it against me. When it isn't your best available option, you should use your best available option instead.
