25 games so far ...
And I think I am just beginning to understand how the game works. I had some cases of bad luck (costly av9 players that dies in their firsts matchs, and two nigglings on the firsts skill rolls ... ) and some cases of good luck (most memorable being sending almost an entire elf team out of the pitch, leaving only two players against eleven angry orcs ! ) and great fun overall. Thank you to all those with whom I have played ! Here are so far my impressions on the game.

Of all the teams I played it is my humans I like the most. They are fast (with lots of ma 7 and 8), but they aren't fragile : nearly everyone have an armor value of 8, which means they can take a block, without being stunned (or worse) like it always happens to my skavens. Four fast & bashy blitzers also really help, and the only fragile elements that needs protection are the catchers - but even then, dodge save their life quite often, and they can get out of an impressive number of tackle zones ! And four rerolls with a general agility of 3 means I can play with the ball, even if I am not always sure it will work. As a result I have a fast and agile team that can somewhat survive an opposition ; of the two others fast & agile teams I have tried, skaven are weak and get injured too fast, and elves aren't as fast as expected - high player costs means I start with mainly linemen, and so almost all my team have a ma of 6.

The startup I used for my human team is four blitzers, one thrower, one catcher, five linemen, four rerolls and fan factor 5. One may find my FF is a bit low, but I have realised that, as I lose quite often, buying a fan factor of 8 or 9 is worthless as it slowly drops to 5 or 6 and stabilize there. On the other hand all the rerolls and the positionals players I could afford did great.

Now, the only problem I have is to score ! Either I play a heavily armoured team (like my orcs or my chaos dwarfs) and my slowed-down players never get to the ending zone, or I play a faster team and all the players that happens to bypass the opponent's defensive line are blitzed to death. I have trouble understanding how to do score without being put down, as often when I open the opponent's defense he is in a good position to put tackle zone on my ball carrier and then two-dice blitz him. I simply don't have enough players to grab the ball and pass it to someone, break an opening, run into it and create some sort of cage or protection around the ball carrier. I think now is the time to view and review lots of match won by good elfs, skaven, or human coaches to see how they manage to do it.

But I am also eyeing on some other races I want to try. Namely lizardmen, and ogres - I will probably do horrible with them but it will be fun ! At least I think ...

I like Blood Bowl !

(Oh, but I hate the kick-off table ;) it creates too much advantages or disadvantages to my taste. Or maybe it is just the last match where I had five players stunned by a pitch invasion, followed by a blitz on the next kick-off, that still remains on my mind ! )

Hi,
From what you write I think you will have lots of fun with woodies. They are easy to score with (even when you have 7 players and no catcher).

They are very forgiving with respect to positioning as they are so fast.
They can easily score.
They can steal the ball out of any non sure hands player with a leap (66%) + -2db (69% against non block player, and 44% against a block player) after the wd got strip ball.
They are a fragile and a bit 1 dimensional (without a wd they are really bad in defense). But any dropped ball by opposing player or a blitz can be punished at a fair chance.
I think they are quite easy to play. Just remeber its much more important to get your players out of tacklezones than it is to throw blocks.

If you want to give it a try I would recommend one of the following 2 starting line-ups.
10 lino, 1 wd, 2 rr, 8 FF (recommended)
9 lino, 1 wd, 1 tree, 2 rr, 4FF or even FF2 and a catcher instead of a lino.

Buy an apo first thing afterwards and up to 3RR before u get to 12 player and 4rr before u get to 13.

The lineman are what makes woodies so good. They can be skilled easily and make decend players when skilled. Try to avoid scoring with ur wd and catchers as much as possible so that you can get your linos dodge. And dont forget to pass to get spp ;). Give it a try and you will have fun.

See you shusaku

Hi !

My principal concern with wood elves is the low av - I am scared it might mean all my team down in the mud and the opponent freely walking toward my end zone :) This is why I avoided them up till now.

Also having ten linemen and two rerolls is a bit saddening, but you can't avoid that with elves. Besides if a rookie elf lineman is nothing much, one with dodge is better, and a blodge elf just make me dream :)

I will try it ! They might be what I search.

Thank you :) Ancre.

Hi, start with more fanfactor or try and gain it and you will enjoy the kickoff rolls more.
2+ tds gives better ff rolls and so does 2+ cas. So get a dp and start fouling.
