Tactical Cheating
People who hover on the goal line to extend the turns in a half are getting on my nerves.

Welcome to fumbbl...

Better get used to it. Just smash their players when they do.

So defend better and stop them from doing so.

AS Skol said, a perfectly valid tactic commonly seen here, and certainly not tactical cheating. Where does it say in the rule book you are NOT allowed to stall? Anyone that moans about stalling in my experience lacks the ability to counter it effectively. Get used to it, and work on anti-stalling tactics, because your moaning about it will not change it at all.

Dont muff up the defence and foul!

Didnt quite get what you meant to start with. Its called stalling. Its a valid tactic which you will learn to use as you get to know the game better. Some races do it more than others. Some coaches do it more than others.
The best coaches know when to stall and when not to.
If someone stalls against you then bash them and foul them til they decide its better to score! :)

Allowing your oppo to successfully stall is often worse than forcing your oppo to score.

I'll cede that having your oppo stall out on you is highly frustrating. With experience you'll learn to prevent/counter/embrace the stall however!

Cheating??... don't think so... Agree with comments below!

I was the player. He did nothing but leave the ball open so i sacked him then he didnt chase me so i waited. His attempts to bash and foul (every turn) led to him losing players and i still had only one injury for the entire game. His defence against a 3 gutter runner skaven team was one thrower and a gobbo off the front line until the gobbo was sent off and the first thrower BH then he just left a thrower... I tactically waited there as he reduced his team to 7 players by half time with i think it was 4 or 5 sent off by the end... he did the work for me. Would have been 4 nil if i didnt attempt to crowd surf his BO and roll double skulls :D

Just admit that you're a wuss and suck at BBowl for letting your opponents outplay you like that :D

On a more serious note though:

Just part of the game. Learn to plan ahead to avoid it, pressure the ball with everything you got(VERY important), put the boot in and generally do everything to discourage your opponent from stalling :) You'll learn.

Also remember that fumbbl has all the best coaches in the world. An "average" fumbbl player has probably 5-10 times more games under his belt than any sunday tabletop league player :P No shame in losing against such coaches, don't let that frustrate you :)

I bet that after 200-300 games here you will embrace fouling stalling and crowdsurfing like old friends!

I read 'tactical chanting' at first. I should explore this technique further.

Welcome to Fumbbl Borrowed_Ladder. I remember when I was new here and subjected to stalling the first time. It made me furious. How someone could be so mean and so unsportsmanlike just to win a match. I even T8 fouled him for it, in a highly ironic display of hypocrisy.

Thing is though, you're going to get used to stalling and start stalling yourself, or you're going to leave this site. It's a valid and effective strategy, not always very fun, but important if you want to win matches. It's not in any way cheating though.

This game has never stopped getting on my nerves, but tactics like stalling and fouling more than once in a match is a tactical part of the game that you have to accept and learn if you want to become skilled. Hell, I'm not even very skilled and I've still managed to learn them ;)

Good luck!

Don't knock it until you've tried it.

From your opponent's comments, it sounds like your defense can use some work. Rather than complain, learn from what he did, both how to stop it and how to replicate it for your own use. Stalling is a very basic tactic for orcs (and bashy races in general), so if you want to stick with them, start taking notes.

On the technical side, you don't stop someone stalling by bashing random players 12 squares from the ball. You stop them by bashing the ones protecting the ball, making it a threat that you'll get to it if they don't score. I can't tell you how many games I've won because my opponent tried to stall and screwed it up.

I totally agree with you.All these damn cheaters. A few weeks ago a guy used a flush against me in poker! The fair thing for him to do would have been to just fold but he didn't. I was too paralised but now that I think of it I should have just thrown all his money over table.

if people play better then me, it is usually because they play the game wrong. If they would play fair I would always win.

And just how exactly am I supposed to cross a distance that would take me two moves to stop him when he is right on the goal line. Yes I made mistakes, yes he played better than me but I am new to the game, excuse me for not knowing everything right off the bat.
Posted by f_alk on 2010-01-19 15:51:18
Take the two turns you need then. He will stall two turns, but no more.

haha, respect to you for saying what you think, even if you are probably wrong. We need more passion and less cynicism here. I rated you a 6.

Ahh a lovely hot topic comes back :)

I suspect that the key thing you didn't do was *gang*foul his players. You can put pressure on just fine by fouling away from teh ball if you are actually injuring things. Make sure you have all the assists you can to get through his armour (especially against AV9!).

If someone is stalling for more than a couple of turns there's actually a decent chance (if they're a poor coach ;)) it's working to your advantage as they aren't using that time to score *again*.

It does get really tedious if they are simultaneously bashing your off the pitch and you can't do anything about it but with a little luck it will at least be over quickly when that happens.
