Match reports
Match reports.

We all enjoy reading em when a coach writes cool comments about a game you played. I know lots of people who write a LOT of em, but I got thinking: man, I hardly ever write match reports myself. So, from now on I shall write a match report of every single game I play, and writing it not after, but during the game. That way I don't have to think about whodunit or whatbeendun or whenhedunit post-match, I can just write the highlights of the game into the match reports as the groovy plays of the day or terrible game-breaking mishaps happen.

... and I made a blog about all this just to see if I can pull even more people into writing match reports \o/. Make each game worth a story!

Try to decide early who you want your audience to be (i.e. yourself, your opponent, or FUMBBL at large). This is easier if you play in a league, a meta-group, or tournaments. You can never go wrong with writing the reports for yourself.

It's better that you focus on the match, than you write the match report while playing.

There was a Swedish guy who did that, every single game. Pikkur was it?

Ahhh Pirog. Pythrr does a lot too, but that's because he can't help himself.

Yeah I thought about this too, but when I tried it the first time I had no problem focusing on the game and writing on my opponent's turns. I usually play my turns very fast and I'm quite sure my opponents will not even notice me writing match reports while playing.

It is a great idea. I followed several coaches just to read their match reports. It was a good brake at work to read players rants about RNG, post soviet propaganda or other fun stories. I tried with a couple of my teams and it gives the team a nice history even though I didnĀ“t play that many games with them.

I got into it the other day. Here is my most recent favorite match report:

If you do write during the game, don't get timed out!

Great idea.

Here is my meager suggestion:

To avoid getting confused or pressed for time, maybe dictate things to your iphone or voice recorder when something noteworthy happens during the game. After it, transcribe it to the match report and clean it up.

Wow, thanks for the tip BB. I usually have my Ipad next to the computer, I'll see if I can get some kind of voice recording app and try this for my own match reports.
