A battle of Margins
So I played my very first League match, and it was rather exciting. I get a little worked up, when there is a match where more is at stake.
Its the Green Mile Convicts a rookie Chaos with a troll, 4 CW and a single reroll, no apo - against fresh out of the jungle Zons, with 4 blitzers, 2 catchers and a thrower, 4 rerolls and no apo.
He wins the coin toss and starts, and tries to break down near the middle. But his guys just can't seem to grasp the ball, and soon I have 4 guys on his half, flanking the guy about to pick up the ball. He missed the pick up twice. At this point, with all the Push Back, and Defender stumbles and the zons dodge, the CW and the troll are way down my half. So I make a few blocks, get the ball and hide in the corner until turn 8 of first half: 1-0.
Second half, I get to be on the offense. I break though with some catchers and some support, he spreads out the CW to form a TZ wall. I move the ball group in line with a catcher... but here I make the first grave mistake: I leave a small TZ hole, for a CW to blitz through... the push/pow luck runs out, and the ball carrier bites the grass... well actually it was the KO box. But he had to take a Both down, and you know what that does to a CW with no skills. The ball has no carrier, is partially screened, but has a CW next to it.
i block my way to a little space for my catchers, and I try to pick up the free ball, but fails. The troll takes business in his hands.... claws... eh huge appendages, and makes a block and a screen around the ball, with some CW.
Mobility is the key, and I call back the troops at the front line, to make a block on a CW and get the ball on a blitzer... I then make the second, and most grave mistake. I GFI, to be further into my own TZs, but I don't calculate that I am not covered enough AND... In doing so I move all the way up to the edge.
A clever move from me opponent, places a Beastman in the last empty square, as the CW charges! and out goes my man, ball is dropped, thrown in by the crowwd, and ends by a CW in the opposite side of the field... but deep in my half.
There is little hope, I get to place a Str3 woman near a Str4, all he has to to tie the score, is make a blitz and a TD. but he chooses to block more of my guys, and make a GFI - with fatal consequence. Yet he manages to make it 2 against my one.
Using the mobility of my team, and the utility of my rerolls, I block my way out and makes a TZ around the ball carrier, though he can still just blitz out. He makes a Block and falls over(looking at the replay, I am not sure how. Its like he misclicks Skull). The ball is mine and I have a catcher totally in the clear... but I have to roll a 5 or more to make the throw... and it happens... all I have to do, to make it a 2-0 victory is catch 3+ with a reroll... but I don't
and my first league match, ends with a 1-0 victory to my Zonzs.
