Cyanide Bloodbowl... repurcusions
Am i the only person who is worried that GW will eventually see Fumbbl as a resource to either tap into or attempt to ban in order to get more players ?
At the end of the day the game is going to be what we already have but with wizzy graphics.
Video / Computer Games also follow trends, so do people think that 1 year after its release BB will still be popular ? Certainly not on the consoles ! Only people playing will be the true BB fans and kids wanting to play "American football where you kill things" issue here is the Cyanide BB community will prolly be filled with more players with a Paul Hicks Ball philosophy. Not that this is bad as I enjoyed a great game vs Mr Hicks the other night, just on mass I think this will not be an enjoyable environment which lets face it has caused enough arguments here already.
Cyanides BB on the PC will also prolly be plagued by dice hacking programs or skill "Double" programs etc with players hacking and cheating in the game. On BB we know we are safe unless playing Admin with thier feared Admin Client :-p

I am just worried to death that the community here ( although im new to it) will perhaps get smashed apart by a coporation trying to make as much money out of a 12 month fad. In the long run its us the True Blood Bowl fans that will suffer.

I for one will wait a month on the game and not go near it if Fumbbl is effected in anyway. Id prefer to give Christer the £50 than spend it on a game that will burn quickly.

For all the BB Cyanide fans, im not truely dissing the game in any way, its gonna be great to see fully animated teams and actually watch the Orc beating the snot out of something and deliver the killing blow or Niggling kick to the knee cap.
Im just worried that the release of this game could be bad for Fumbbl and the BB community as a whole.

I have no idea what GW and/or Cyanide intend. I can tell you from experience that the same concerns rippled through the Diplomacy online community from time to time as they debated what Hasbro would or wouldn't do to the online game. In the end, as far as I know, nothing was ever done. Alienating the online Diplomacy community is alienating a huge component of that game's fan base, and many of the potential purchasers for any new product. If Hasbro even bothered to think about it, that's apparently what they concluded. I think the same holds true for Blood Bowl and FUMBBL.

The questions are complex, but I have to believe (or at least hope) that people interested in selling and marketing both the board game and the PC/Console game will consider FUMBBL excellent free advertising for their products and leave this site alone. I would.

Could be bad if people leave fumbbl: That's about it I guess. GW is a money-minded company anyway and always had another BB game ready- tabletop that is. Nevertheless they left fumbbl alone. If Cyanide creates a fancy game with impressive graphics it should aim on being more appealing than fumbbl in order to "tap potential" rather than being the bad guy stealing our toy...
As for the "one-year-perspective":
You can't be sure how they are planning but well made games cost time and money. They are not designed to be popular for a year only. Maybe it's true for console-players..? PC gamers however still play Warcraft3 (...and even Starcraft) after years. Blizzard might be exceptional- an exception other developers are looking up too though.
Cyanide should know that BB has the potential to be popular for decades- why creating a "one-hit-wonder"? Would be stupid.
Either it is well made and remains popular for several years or it's a failure and we don't have to bother from the start.

For me people leaving fumbbl in favor of a more anonymous community (a la warcraft3) is the only threat. That might include worse chat in game and "crippling4life-coaches".
