Has Michael Bay really lost it?
Not one to go for blog-discussions, but this is just something that involved news that couldn't go without sharing:
Watching a movie by Michael Bay is, to me, a bit similar to enduring a love/hate-relationship. On the one hand, he can make action look really cool on the big screen, although on the other hand he suffers from the same condition as George Lucas in that the characters they create in their (especially latest) movies could just as well be from cardboard... Yeah, I will admit, I'm leaning towards the negative end of the spectrum.

However, I am wondering whether he really starts to lose it nowadays. His production company Platinum Dunes has acquired the rights for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise and are set to release a live-action movie late next year... Last week, Michael Bay visited Nickelodeon to talk a bit about this movie and from that appearance, the following quote has hit the internet:

"When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable."

Now having grown up with the turtles, we all know them as having mutated and now, suddenly, because mr. Bay with his alien fetish comes along they suddenly are part of an alien race? Seriously, has he really lost it???

Michael Bay never _had_ it.

He represents the worst of Hollywood dross.

Alien Race? What. The. Hell?

Has he even read the comics?

He's the one who gets tossed the cheap "thrill" movies that no director worth his salt would take on.

Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles?

he didn't really need to spend a dime to get this franchise if he just made it up!

Tween Alien Samurai Frogs.

Book it. Done. No need for royalties. If challenged in court, it's a "parody"...

i bet Mr. Bay's TANT would have half the screen time devoted to american military for no good reason

it really annoyed me that he managed to make 3 films about alien robots in which there was more screentime for irrelevant humans than for the alien robots.

Jog on Mr Bay and take your hard-on for the military with you

love the turtles while not being a member of the m.bay fan club, however I will be boring and pour some water on the campfire. "Alien" can also mean plain "different". and doesnt the ooze come from dimension x? technically krang, miyamoto usagi, and some others are aliens in several senses of the word. that being said, i think mr.bay gives away too much of the plot for new "readers".

saying that lucas made cardboard characters would be giving him a bit too much credit.

(@maysrill: heard of the battle toads?)

Jesus, cartoon geeks are freaking hilarious.

Note:
"These turtles are from an alien race ..."

Not:
"These turtles are an alien race "

Subtle difference? Does Bay know his ass from a hole in the ground? Will the movie suck anyway? Do the Turtles suck anyway?

I don't know the answers to those questions, nor do I care, but wow, way to read what you want to read and jump to fanboi rage ;)

tap tap tap...

Maybe read what I wrote more carefully? But then... if you could do that I wouldn't have had to post anything in the 1st place!

:D

Or... just ask yourself why you comment on anything around here, then pretend you asked me, and use the same answer you gave yourself!

Teenrage Moola Nitwit Turtles?

Then again, I live in a country where 'ninja' was too offensive, and exchanged with 'hero'.
