I didn't think you removed the star players from the other races from the deck if that race wasn't playing?
I never did at least, I just removed their cards, not the stars for them.

Yeah all evil stars can play for all evil teams no matter the race.

It's not only for fluff; the Reikland Reavers (Humans) have a team upgrade that gives them 2 fans for every human Star Player on your roster.
There will likely be more stuff in the future which takes this into account.
