Nobel Laureates faced a strong elf team yesterday, in their first game in the Lustrian cup. They fought like a team as usual and stuck to their strategy.
My opponents tried to play elfball and managed to do that efficiently for the first half, we countered that and managed to score 2-2 in T8. I managed to steal the ball from a failed pick up and score 1-0 early, but Gary_Gygax managed to do the same thing in the third drive when I failed a pickup.
The dump off and NoS combination worked as it is supposed to. Gary_Gygax had thus not much chance to recover the ball once I got a safe defense setup. I could stall myself to a 3-2 victory after the tie in first half. Taking into advantage that I had more blodge and tackle then Gary_Gygax it was the safest strategy trying to knock him out. He was on a shortage of elves in the end, but it was not overhelming and he could still strike back. However, I had no interest in letting his KO guys come back onto the field (he had smelling salts).
All in all a nice game. We didnt use our dirty players. The nice italian coach Gary had some bad luck in first half when his -av dirty player went off to BH on a failed dodge. That was before any fouls had been commited. I really felt that I had better use of my blodge catcher with dirty player and I'm sure that Gary didn't want to waste his freak player Wuhan (+2ST, dirty player) on a useless foul.
Thanks again Gary_Gygax for a nice game. Yeah, guess this could be in a match report.... but this is a major and feels like it deserves to be written in a blog.
The qualifier final will be interesting, when we are facing a rather strong dark elf team. At a first glance, I don't really see any capacity for that team to efficiently stop our offensive drives. It will probably be a question of me not getting knocked out totally and also what handicaps he get.
Headcoach Malitrius retires to think about some grand strategy to reach the final round of the Lustrian cup.
