The Rotsouls' First Tournament
Match 1: The Bloody Nuffle Sect
Starring!
The Rotting Elves of Athel Loren!
Featuring!
The Fanatic Worshippers of Nuffle's Blood Aspect!
When the Sylvaneth spotted the pre-match rituals of the opposing team, more than one of them actually wet themselves. The sight of muscle-bound freaks fastening barely-legal knuckledusters to their fists, and the sunlight glinting off
literal weapons that the ref had somehow "missed", was enough to strike fear into the elves' hearts. At least the other half of the team were fine; the dryads weren't really awake yet, and
Big Horn was already frothing at the mouth to get on the pitch and
KILL SOMETHING!. The ominous groaning hum of the Sect in worship died down as the teams lined up for the first drive...
The game started with the Sect receiving, and the sylvans braced themselves for a bout of bloody murder. However, it quickly became clear that Nuffle was definitely
not favouring his/her/their fanatics today, as every single hit against a dryad- and though they're tough, they're far from invulnerable- ended in not even a stun, allowing the less thick-skinned elves to get on with stealing the ball. Chainsaws jammed, knuckledusters got stuck in twisting vines, knifes slid harmlessly aside from bark and cloth alike, and the single, gleaming, spiked shoe of the
Sacred Booter just couldn't pin down that prone elf. As this first half carried on, the Sect's game plan was severely hampered by the players breaking down, falling to their knees, and praying out loud to Nuffle, ignoring all else in their moments of crisis. No answer was forthcoming, and the sylvans continued to sprint around the pitch, very much unharmed.
Throughout this, the Sect's head coach was stoic, resolute, with faith unshakeable. "Nuffle giveth, and Nuffle taketh away" was heard a couple of times from the sidelines. The wheel of karma will turn, and the Sect will grind the next team into bloody pulp. It is inevitable.
By the end of the match, the Rotsouls were actually
up players. And a few Touchdowns. With their first win of the season confirmed, the Rotsouls are currently feeling confident, headed with excitement towards their next match. Who will it be? You'll have to stick around to find out, because I certainly don't know.
