“FUMBBL Minors 175TR I-4 - round 2
--------------------------------------------------
Something has happened to the Cheerful Deads. Between their pillaging, plundring and senseless grog drinking the undead pirates has learned to play ball. After surprising their opponents, the fans and even themselves by winning the first round the Cheerful Dead faced Deutschpunk Heroen, a band of rough looking chaos dwarves lead by the bull centaur Razzia who had drugged himself into a true beast. The undead had an ace up their sleeve though. Their sponsor and supporter Count Von Drakenborg had chosen to grace them with his presence!
Just like in round 1 the Cheerful Deads started the match by disposing of the main threat. Razzia was brought down and fouled out (KO) in the very first turn of the match. Just moments later followed the minotaur who was knocked out by one of the mummies. The chaos dwarves craved immediate revenge and ganged up on Captain Rot O'Hoy, stomping and smashing on his body when he fell to the ground. What would have been fatal punishment to any living being just meant some time resting off the pitch for the undead pirate though.
A failed blitz (GFI ate up reroll then doble skull) by Master Scurvey followed by another miserable block on the ball carrying hobgoblin (2 * skull with my strip ball tackler) made the situation look nasty, but things turned around when the bull centaur EA 80 stormed in to get a piece of the action and fell on his own legs, stumbling to the ground. The confuzion opened up some room for the pirates to get through and Buck Aneer could land an injuring blow on the ball carrier, which in turn opened up for his wight collegue Feisty Fred to run in and snatch up the ball. An awful situation had suddenly turned into a great oppurtunity to score for the Cheerful Deads!
Feisty Fred started running towards the end zone line, but EA 80 was up on his feet and covered the distance between them in a fast pace. Then suddenly Master Scurvey stepped in his path and stunned the bull centaur with a heavy blow, which enabled Fred to run in 1 - 0 for the undead.
For the second half the Cheerful Deads had the lead, had possession of the ball and all their men in shape to fight. The chaos dwarves on the other hand couldn't shake life in their minotaur.
The pirates stacked up their bashiest men on the front with the ghouls and count Drakenberg in the back. But suddenly they seemed to have lost their confidence. Smudge the Unundead fumbled with the pickup and in the general confuzion Master Scurvey was fouled out (KO) in the front ranks. Soon the chaos dwarves had broken through the defensive lines and isolated the undead pirates into pockets, while a bull centaur and a hobgoblin managed to surround count Drakenborg who held the ball.
This was the match deciding event. Captain Rot O'hoy cleared the other bull centaur from the pitch with ye ol' fists of fury and count Drakenborg dodged away to deliver a splendid long pass right in the hands of Buck Aneer. A failure would very likely have ended with a TD for the opponents.
While the rest of the team tried to tie up the chaos dwarves at their best ability Buck Aneer ran for the end zone line. But running away from a sprinting bull centaur even with half a pitch in advance is not an easy thing. Shortly before the line he was charged by the bull and dropped the ball. But the ghouls hadn't been idle. They set up ground for themselves to swoop in after the ball and could snatch it up and hand it into the hands of the waiting Yar the Lucky, who through not much individual effort ended up the match winner.
All in all a fun and exciting match and the Cheerful Deads are through to round 3, and with a completly intact team to boot!
Thanks for the match, palandt. It was a lot of fun! I would love to play you again!”
