“In this back-to-back rematch, the Riders faced a reduced Molerat squad still hurting from the casualties they had received in their first game. From some reason the Lords of the Blackbox Arena had decided this would make a good contest, for the expected bloodsport no doubt.
They were not disappointed, for the Riders inflcited multiple casualties on their very first go, setting the tone for a bruising, 8-turn drive that featured a fractured skull on Salman, the Molerats giant gutter runner. Rookie runner Hal Hillswift scored his first ever TD and immediately began bragging about it to one and all. Chet, sidelined with a virus, yelled at him to shut up - it's a bad idea to irritate Molerats fans! Meanwhile, the Molerats took a quick snap on their final play of the half to send Lana sprinting away on a one-turn TD attempt. The Riders goal line defense was ready, but Lana skillfully dodged past both Drax and Lars with the tying TD, making it 1-1 at halftime.
The Molerats fans, rallying behind their team and annoyed at Hal for his boasting, hurt him badly with a thrown rock. "Welcome to BloodBowl, noob!" yelled Chet as they took Hal away in the team's wheelbarrow.
In order to avoid a repeat loss, the Riders needed to take the ball away from the skillful Molerats - a challenge they'd faced before and lost. This time, their prospects were better because they had an 11-6 advantage on the Molerats who were down to their last gutter runner, Lana.
The Molerats pushed several players deep to one wing, drawing several Riders in pursuit. Again, the Molerats coach pulled off the "Cincinatti Reverse" catching the Riders badly out of position. Lana sprinted towards an open receiver ready to throw the winning pass. But at the last minute she slipped on a blood puddle and went down, leaving the ball open after she was taken off the pitch with a sprained ankle.
There was an anxious moment as the Riders almost botched the pickup, but they recovered the ball and listening to their coach for once, caged upfield. Bart Ironwill took the handoff for the winning TD. He hoped for praise from his mentor Phin Finishem, but Phin was preoccupied with embarassment for needing the referee to protect him from a fouling attempt earlier.
A grinding bloody 2-1 victory for the Riders against a badly beat up Molerat squad, who were coached to their usual high standard.”
