“This was another unusually soft game, increasingly characteristic of the Stoppers. Maybe it was the stench of the filthy rodents, who knows, but the lads just didn't seem to want to touch them enough even to land a proper block.
The first half at least looked like a proper game, with both teams struggling to gain the upper hand, and Gilbar bringing home the TD just after halfway through the period. The rats took their drive all the way as well, ending the half with a TD.
Second half we started on the defense, and it became increasingly clear that the boys just aren't used to the incredibly fast skittering things, as the STrappolati weaved through our lines almost as though we weren't there. Both Halvor and Fundin were pushed into the crowd, though luckily into our own fans and they were returned unharmed to the team dugout. The fact that the rodents failed to score a second time is largely thanks to the tireless energy of the young Thorfang Wildflail, who kept chasing the elusive vermin near our end zone while the rest were struggling to keep their reinforcements from getting to the struggling pair. In the end, however, both teams were pretty much tangled up near our end zone, with the ball changing hands every turn. It looked as though the Strappolati would win for sure, until Nyrath Orchammer charged around a linerat to blitz down the supporting gutter runner and laid his hands on the other gutter, who had the ball. The final moments were a true battle of wills as the rats tried to push our boys away from the ball carrier, but they simply would not budge. And as a final note, Nyrath managed to knock the ball out of the hands of the gutter as he was handing it off into the end zone, sealing the game as a draw.
Despite the all the frustration, it was in the end a good performance from the lads, against a skilled and much, much faster opponent. We've learned a thing or two from this, and are looking forward to trying them out on the practice field. We won't be caught so unprepared next time!”
