“Our first ever game in the WIL proper (despite 10 games of WIL Fringe Cup / WIL Plate action) sees us up against DukeTyrion's rookie dwarves. They get two handicaps (bad press & extra training) but are playing 43 TS up without an apo so we have the definite advantage.
We win the toss and opt to receive to maximise early damage, putting in a DP foul on turn 1 that niggles a longbeard. DukeTyrion notices that the zombie DP used be a skaven lineman of his that joined our ranks during our WIL Fringe game against each other! On turn 2 our mummy KILLS a trollslayer - and we add him to our team! 9 dwarves left!
Meanwhile they have charged all their players into our half as we are slow to recover their kick that landed by our endzone. On turn 4 they get a 2d blitz on our ball carrier with some sweet dodges, but luckily are out of rerolls and can't tackle him over. Still- they have players all around him and most of ours are tied up elsewhere. In the end we have to 1d blitz then dodge away to get to safety. Their runner chases after but trips up on the GFI he needs to get close and we're able to leg it downfield to score on T7.
They have two turns to try and equalise, but a deep kick and a wide screen of defenders means they can only just get one hopeful runner through and we're easily able to blitz him over to make it impossible.
Half time and we set up 11 to kick vs 9, rolling a bad kick that goes way out of bounds and lets them hand the ball to their runner on the LOS at one side. This saves them about two turns of running and they are straight into our half with as many dwarves as possible. Our DP fouls for the first time this half - MNG'ing one of their runners. They have the rest of their team practically by our endzone and decide to stall as much as they can. Finally we manage a 1d blitz that knocks over the ball carrier using up our final reroll and though they recover they can no longer afford to waste time and they make it 1-1.
We have 4 turns with the ball but no rerolls and face 8 dwarves as they get a perfect defence - and then our first block comes up double skulls! Oof! They immediately take advantage to chainpush our guard wight into the stands (stun). Our first block the next turn is double both-down and another turnover. They run their remaining slayer and runner right up to next to the ball... the dwarves could win this! Luckily we're able to 2d blitz the runner (badly hurt) and even run a ghoul into scoring distance of their endzone just in case. They use their blitz to mark him, then go for the impossible- their troll slayer needs to pick up in a tackle zone (5+) then dodge (4+) then two GFIs... and he makes it!!!
2-1 for the dwarves!
We set up for a chainpush for our MA8 ghoul, but with their kick landing in our endzone and our first block knocking down the dwarf it's futile. Well won DukeTyrion! That's this team's first ever loss :)”

“What a debut for the boys. The division was always loking tough, but this was straight into the fire.
First foul, player niggled, next turn player killed ... the heads start to drop.
Did all I could to slow clarkin down, but it was not enough, 0-1 half time.
Second half bad kick gave me the ball and the dwarves piled down the side of the field, removing a player or two as they went. After stalling for a while the pressure was too much, so I scored and hoped I could hold on for the draw.
The undead receive and without covering without covering the ball, start with block ... skulls! We remove a player or two and start to put pressure on the line. Still no coverage on the ball, the undead roll both downs! We charge through and double mark the ball, but the undead recoved, removing our slayer.
Suddenly it's turn 8. We had an option to blitz the ghoul marking the ball, but the slayers frenzy meant any follow up would have left us out of range to score, so we used the blitz to make sure a longbeard could mark their only player in scoring range.
Then, when everything else was done, all that was left was the unlikely score chance ... it needed 5+, 4+, 2+, 2+ ... but it was the last roll of the dice, so we went for it ... and Scored!
Amazing game, painful ... but we got an unexpected win and some decent cash, so there rebuild starts here ... although not unexpected.
